Written by Sean Catherine Derek
Directed by Hugh Martin
Song: "You Can Count On Me"

Jay Jay is thrilled when Brenda asks him to watch an adorable hound-dog named, King. As the day progresses, he enters into a game of skytag with Tracy and Herky and ends up losing King. Jay Jay learns that a big part of being responsible is telling someone when you've made a mistake. Brenda explains that mistakes are how we learn and grow.

"Dog Gone Doggy" provides examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Right When Jay Jay tells the truth to Brenda, Oscar shows up, having found King just in time.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Upon returning to Brenda, Jay Jay struggles to admit the truth at first, before he finally blurts it out.
  • Foreshadowing: King usually responds to Jay Jay with whimpers that sound rather lonely. Oscar later reveals he was feeling sad so he took him to the meadow to cheer him up.
  • Heroic BSoD: By Jay Jay, when he announces he is not responsible.
  • "I Am Great!" Song: Jay Jay constantly states he is responsible and will try to do so in his song.
  • List Song: Referenced during "You Can Count On Me":
Jay Jay: 'Cause number 1: We'll be having fun,
But number 2: There's a job to do.
And number 3: I'll be the one to see things through!
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jay Jay leaves King to play Sky Tag with Tracy and Herky, causing him to run off. He is eventually found by Oscar at the last minute.
