Tropes:

  • Big Storm Episode: A hurricane causes a lockdown at the Marbella.
  • Call-Back: The chyrons show a list of all the crazy stuff Petra has done to Rafael in the past six months.
  • Foreshadowing: This line is dropped about Jane and Michael’s relationship.
Michael: [about Jane] We belong together, and I'll never stop believing that.
Narrator: and for as long as Michael lived, until he drew his very last breath, he never did.
  • Friend Versus Lover: Jane is torn between her friends working at the Marbella (Lina, Luca and Frankie) and Rafael, when they ask her to talk to him about the staff getting laid off, and potentially ask for it not to be them.
  • Hiding Behind the Language Barrier: The doctor explains that Alba will be deported after she recovers, because of her immigration status. Xiomara wants to tell Jane about the situation over the police radio, but there is a cop in the room, so she says something in Spanish to confirm that the cop cannot speak it. She then hides behind the language barrier and explains to Jane.
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre: After Rose has sex with Luisa and learns a key fact about Emilio...
Narrator: Ah. This was the information Rose came for.
    [Chyrons] Pun. Intended.
  • Lethal Chef: In a flashback, Jane did not want Xiomara to cook for heritage day because of her terrible cooking.
  • Locked in a Room: Jane and Michael end up stuck in an elevator together. The narrator even calls it a "classic telenovela trope."
  • Secret Underground Passage: Michael and Nadine explore Sin Rostro's secret tunnels under the Marbella
  • Run for the Border: Rose tells Rafael that she thinks Emilio is Sin Rostro and that he is set to flee the country for Croatia, where there is no U.S. extradition.
