Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 8 Sheep In Sheep Out

Go To

As Uncle and Jackie (with Jade tagging along) track down the noble sheep in the Scottish highlands, Daolon Wong tires of his latest minions' constant failures and has them replaced.

As the sheep's astral goes AWOL, Uncle aims to track it down and return it to the body for rehoming at Section 13, but astral forms are undetectable by conventional means, and a new but familiar threat to their mission is creeping up from the shadows.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Blowing a Raspberry: When the noble sheep and Daolon Wong re-encounter in the astral plain following the sheep's release, the sheep does this to Wong before returning to his own body.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Shadowkhan return for this episode after being absent since Shendu's latest banishment, discounting a few cameos.
  • Continuity Nod: When Daolon Wong first summons the Shadowkhan, a familiar symbol appears in his cauldron.
  • Don't Try This at Home: After Jackie defeats a couple of Shadowkhan in Jade's body, he tells her not to try at home the moves he just used.
  • Dream Walker: The Shadowkhan are revealed to be able to enter dreams through the Shadowrealm. This is how they bypass Uncle's wards to enter Jade's dream.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Jackie and Jade get their bodies mixed up when Uncle summons their astral forms back.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: When Daolon Wong's astral form returns to his body, he can't get back in thanks to Uncle using the same spell he did on Jackie and Jade.
  • Knuckle Cracking: One of the Shadowkhan cracks its neck when first facing Jackie.
  • Mook Carryover: Daolon Wong banishes the Enforcers and replaces them with the Shadowkhan. He takes the Enforcers back at the end of the episode though when the Shadowkhan are unable to defeat the heroes as well.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Daolon Wong manages to capture the power of astral projection. It backfires on him spectacularly.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: When Uncle finds Jackie and Jade's dormant bodies, he assumes they're asleep and whacks Jackie in order to wake him up. When Jackie doesn't react with his usual yelp of pain, Uncle notices it and realizes something is wrong.
  • Soul Jar: When Daolon Wong tasks the Shadowkhan with capturing the sheep's astral form, he provides them with the Cube of Tang Shan that absorbs and contains astral forms. The Shadowkhan nearly capture the sheep with it before Jackie breaks it.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Daolon Wong loses his patience with the Enforcers' incompetence, banishes them inside his staff, and replaces them with the Shadowkhan. When the Shadowkhan fail him as well throughout the episode, he stops using them and takes the Enforcers back.
Daolon Wong: Why is good help so hard to find?
  • Talking Animal: The noble sheep can speak to humans intelligibly when his astral enters their dreams. He sounds quite a lot like Sean Connery.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Jade comments in this episode that Uncle's spells keep getting more and more impressive. He responds that it's necessary to keep up with the Forces of Darkness.
  • Voices Are Mental: Lampshaded by Jackie, who even asks why Jade's is coming out of his body.
  • You Wouldn't Hit a Guy with Glasses: Jackie says this line to the Shadowkhan while he's wearing Uncle's special goggles.
