Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 17 Attack Of The J Clones

Go To

Chang, having escaped from prison, creates evil clones of the J-Team in order to defeat the real J-team and and reclaim his collection of jade artifacts from the museum.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Beneath Suspicion: Uncle doesn’t consider Paco and Jade to have clones. He is wrong.
  • The Blank/ No Face Under the Mask: The clones are not perfect; their faces are in fact magical masks, underneath which they have completely bald and featureless heads (save for two small eyes). El Toro’s clone spends most of the episode like this.
  • Bookends: This season began and ends with the J-team trying recover stolen jade from Chang.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The clones are revealed to actually be naturally good like the originals and an additional spell was needed to turn them evil. Uncle gives Tohru the spell necessary to turn them back to good which allows the two J-Teams to take down Chang.
  • Character Development: When Viper's clone is caught stealing the Jade and the real Viper is locked up, Jade vouches for Viper. Jackie surprisingly agrees, saying that they've been through too much with Viper for him to believe she has returned to her old ways. After several episodes of doubting Viper as an ally, he now fully accepts and trusts her.
  • Forgotten Birthday: Played with. It's not really Captain Black's birthday, but Captain Black is not pleased to find out Jackie doesn't know when his (Black's) birthday is.
Captain Black: Gee, Jackie, I thought we were very good friends.
  • Imposter Forgot One Detail: Jade is able to spot Paco as a magical clone because he pronounces her name correctly, unlike the real Paco, who always pronounced it "Yade" due to his Spanish accent.
  • Mirror Routine: Happens between Jackie and his clone when they first meet face to face.
  • Properly Paranoid: When Uncle is about to use magic to see if any other J-team members are clones, he first ties them up because the clone will no doubt attack him when exposed. He is right. Unfortunately, the clone turns out to be Paco; the only member besides Jade who is not tied up because he was beneath any suspicion.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • The Paco clone creates a minor one, as Paco did not appear in "Re-Enter the J-Team", thus Chang should not be aware of Paco's existence. It's possible that someone working for Chang found out about Paco while they were putting the plot together.
    • Likewise, Uncle is familiar with Chang even though he also did not accompany the J-Team to apprehend him the first time. Jackie would likely have filled him in.
  • Spot the Imposter: When the real Jackie bursts into a meeting with the J-team that his clone is already attending, the rest of the team has to figure out who is who. Captain Black first tries this by asking about his birthday, but much to his dismay, neither Jackie knows the answer. Jade eventually solves the situation by asking both Jackies if they can take her to an amusement park. The first says yes, while the second says no and tells her to do her homework. Jade knows better and the first Jackie is exposed as the clone.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Once El Toro realizes that Paco was replaced by a clone, we cut to a scene in him trapped in a cage like this, scared out of his wits.
  • Wedgie: When Jade fights against her clone, she gives the clone a wedgie.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: At the end of the episode, it is revealed the clones are not naturally evil. So Tohru uses a spell to turn them good again and together, they defeat Chang. The J-clones are never seen again afterwards, leaving their fate unknown.

Jade Gave Herself a Wedgie

Jade quickly sneaked up behind her clone as she was trying to get up, grabbed the back of her underwear that was sticking out of her pants, and gave her a wedgie.
