Recap / Invader Zim S 1 E 33 The Sad Sad Tale Of Chickenfoot

Go To

Disgusted by how desperate Mysterious Mysteries is getting for stories, Dib sets out to debunk its latest subject, Chicken Foot, a presumed half-chicken, half-human creature who's really just a crazy man in a chicken costume.

Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: Both the second episode to focus exclusively on Dib and the second where Zim isn't even mentioned, let alone appears, at all.
  • Broken Record: "I want my slaw!" "You have your slaw, sir!" Repeat.
  • The Cameo: Bill from "Career Day" is interviewed by Mysterious Mysteries as a paranormal expert.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Dirty Chicken Meal toy, which is a little chicken with a grappling hook. Dib uses it to unzip Chicken Foot's costume.
  • Clingy Costume: Chicken Foot is just a man stuck inside his chicken suit, who genuinely believes he's turned into a chicken.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander
    • Walter "Chewy" Rodriguez, aka Chicken Foot, is clearly missing a few screws, hence why he's so quick to believe that he really is Chicken Foot. Being trapped in a chicken costume for a long time doesn't help.
    • The clerk at Mr. Chicky Licky isn't much better. Watch him waving around frozen chickens and making spooky noises while telling Dib about Chicken Foot. Later, he gleefully eats soggy french fries out of a dirty sink.
  • Eskimos Aren't Real: When the reporters are saying that all paranormal creatures are fake if Chickenfoot is, they mention hobos alongside Bigfoot and UFOs
  • Goofy Suit: Walter's job was just to wear a chicken costume to advertise Dirty Chicken. Then the zipper got stuck, he freaked out and "became" Chicken Foot.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end, we see a Crazy Taco mascot loading his food into a microwave. Cut to outside the restaurant, where we hear an explosion, followed by a scream of despair...
  • My Instincts Are Showing: Walter Rodriguez's so immersed in his belief that he's a chicken that, during the climax, he's seen stumbled around the ground while bopping the head of his suit against the road, as if he were "pecking" the ground.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In debunking one phony paranormal story, Dib ends up calling all paranormal studies into question, including the ones that he believes.
  • Only Sane Man: The doctor who examined Chickenfoot was literally the only person in the episode aside from Dib who could tell Chickenfoot was simply a guy stuck in a costume.
  • Sanity Ball: Maria, the other clerk at the chicken restaurant, thinks Chickenfoot really is a monster. But she also repeatedly begged and eventually tried to stop the other clerk from eating soggy French fries out of a dirty sink while exclaiming how nasty they were.
