Recap / I Carly S 02 Ep 14 I Make Sam Girlier

Go To

iMake Sam Girlier is the 14th episode in the second season of iCarly.

When Sam has a crush on a boy at school and worries he won't like her because she's tough, she asks Carly to change her image and appear more girly for him.

Meanwhile, Spencer is convinced a girl likes him because of his tuxedo.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Don't pretend to be something you're not. Just Be Yourself. The right person will like you the way you are.
  • Birthday Episode: The beginning of the episode is set on Sam's birthday.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Spencer thinks that the girl he is dating, Veronica, only likes him because she thinks he looks handsome in tuxedo. The ending of the subplot has her admit that, yes, this is the reason.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Jocelyn picks on a young boy because, as she puts it, she sneezed and he was nearby and didn’t say "Bless you" to her.
  • Get Out!: Sam yells this as she shoos Jocelyn out of Groovy Smoothie. She says it again to Jocelyn's sidekicks which they promptly oblige.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Carly and the guests are about to sing the "Happy Birthday" song to Sam on their webshow, Freddie points out that it's not in the public domain, so they sing "She’s a jolly good fellow!" to her instead. This extends to the actual show, who would have to pay to use the "Happy Birthday" song because it's a licensed song. Interestingly, this song is NOW in the public domain since 2015.
  • Meaningful Echo: When Jocelyn makes fun of the girly-tuned Sam, she asks if Sam could for once "rip her head off her body". Later at Groovy Smoothie when Jocelyn attacks Carly, her prompt for Sam is, "Rip her head off!"
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Inverted when Carly is attacked by Jocelyn and feels it's time for Sam to no longer be girly.
    Carly: Sam?
    Sam: Yeah?
    Carly: Rip her head off!
  • Too Dumb to Live: Spencer, in order to impress Veronica even more, decides to secretly wear his tuxedo underneath his jogging suit when she and him go out for a run. This results in Spencer feeling exhausted after running only a few blocks, and forcing Veronica to take him back to his apartment.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Sam's crush, Pete, says at her party that she is very tough and "one bad dude." However, this upsets Sam, making her think that Pete would like her only as a friend instead of a girlfriend if he thought of her like that. So, she starts to ask Carly to make her girly.
