Robin overcomes her fear of babies when she bonds with Marvin on a babysitting adventure. Ted is reluctant to admit that his new girlfriend is unstable and a bad influence.
This episode provides examples of:
- Afraid to Hold the Baby: Robin has spent months avoiding holding Marvin because she's not comfortable with babies. Lily, who wasn't aware of this, casually hands him to her when she's distracted which finally breaks her fear.
- Ax-Crazy: After Ted breaks up with her Jeannette locks herself in his bedroom and trashes his stuff.
- Magical Negro: Mike Tyson shows up to fix things when Robin is left alone with Marvin.
- Maternally Challenged: Robin hasn't held Marvin in the entire eight months of his life, because the thought terrifies her.
- Not Hyperbole: Lily mentions that Ted's relationship with Jeanette was doomed to go down in flames, in the literal sense. A few episodes later, that's exactly what happens, along with Ted's other belongings.Lily: When this all goes down in flames - and I don't mean that figuratively. I expect there to be actual flames.

Future!Ted: Aaaand there were. - Rabid Cop: Ted tries to call the police to get Jeannette removed from his apartment only to learn she's a cop. Apparently she's been suspended for using excessive force before.
- Shout-Out: One of the items Marshall and Barney stock at Ted's apartment is a real-life size mannequin of Boba Fett, which later Ted puts on when trying to deal with Jeanette.
- Tsundere: Robin has been avoiding holding Marvin because of her Child Hater tendencies. Once she does, she discovers that she actually enjoyed it.
- Woman Scorned: Jeanette wasn't exactly stable to begin with but after Ted dumps her she reacts by trashing his bedroom.
