Robin tries to find out how serious Barney's relationship with Patrice really is, as Marshall and Lily deal with the fact that Marshall's widowed mother is screwing Lily's dad.
This episode provides examples of:
- Call-Back: After some episodes of deciding to not doing another one, they decide to make another Intervention after Robin claims that Barney needs one for going out with Patrice. Turns out that the Intervention is for her.
- Family with Benefits: Both Mickey and Judy.
- I Need a Freaking Drink: At the end of the episode, Robin realizes that the Intervention her friends held was for her, and she asks, still in denial, if it was because of her drinking problem. Lily answers by giving her a glass of whisky.
- Romancing the Widow: Judy tells Lily she's ready to start dating again. Lily encourages her, only to have her start hooking up with Mickey, to Marshall's horror.
- Running Gag: Ted starts the episode complaining about the gang borrowing his stuff and never returning it. Throughout the episode, everyone uses items clearly stamped "Property of Ted Mosby."
