Barney proposes an outrageous pre-nup to Quinn, leading to support from the rest of the guys, and prompting Quinn to write her own pre-nup to Barney.
This episode provides examples of:
- Both Sides Have a Point: Everyone has valid complaints... except Barney. And Robin, turns out she doesn't actually have a complaint about Nick.
- Diegetic Switch: After Arthur says his wife got one of his kidneys, we get a Scare Chord. Turns out that's his wife's ringtone.
- Do Wrong, Right: On Marshall being brought home as a baby, his father threw him to one of Marshall's brothers. Marshall's mother was having none of that - they are to punt baby Marshall about outside, so that none of the lamps break.
- Dumbass Has a Point: All the men get to thinking about their own relationships when Barney brings up his prenup. Subverted, in that it gets them all into a load of trouble with their women.
- Easily Forgiven: The fights all end relatively easily, especially the one between Robin and Nick. The exception is Barney and Quinn. They realize they don't actually trust each other and can't get married.
- Foreshadowing: The episode marked the start of the "Autumn of Break-ups". We all know that Barney and Robin are supposed to get married and Ted still has to meet The Mother.
- Foregone Conclusion: Future!Ted immediately discards Lily and Marshall, because there was no way they would separate at this point.
- Funny Foreigner: Klaus, while living with Ted and Victoria. He had a lot of ferret pets and went around naked.
- Jerkass Has a Point: From all people, it's Arthur who cuts all the fights at once and says that the first thing they needed to do is listen to each other and concede.
- Left the Background Music On: Psycho-style slasher music plays as Arthur shows Barney that his ex-wife got one of his kidneys in their divorce. He then points out that it's her ringtone and answers the phone.
- Naked People Are Funny: Klaus walked around Ted's apartment completely naked.
- National Stereotypes: Klaus's German sitcom is an Odd Couple with a neat roommate and a very neat roommate.
- Prenup Blowup: Between Barney and Quinn. The prolonged debate and increasingly petty clauses they try to add force them to realise they don't trust each other.
- Scare Chord: Arthur's ringtone for his wife.
- Share the Male Pain: When Barney realizes where the shock collar will go, all the men grab their crotches in sympathy.
- Sixth Ranger: Nick plays a small role in the episode. No Character Shilling, though, he just shows up and interacts with the guys.
- Time Skip: This episode is a few weeks after the previous episode. There's been several weeks of build up to this.
- Too Much Alike: Barney and Quinn realized they were too much like each other that they couldn’t trust each other and broke up.
- Villainous Rescue: Mother fucking Artillery Arthur is the one to stop the gang fighting in their relationships.
