Ted and Robin try to keep Lily's mind occupied with stories while she's giving birth, while Marshall and Barney try to make it back to New York in time.

- We get the shot of Dr. Sonja screaming that she'll yank the baby out of Lily.
- Group Costume Fail: A flashback reveals that one Halloween the Gang tried to dress up as The Breakfast Club. However, they failed to specify which characters they should dress as and all of them ended up dressing as John Bender.
- I Am Spartacus: When the bus driver informs Barney that he can only stop for a medical emergency, the elderly people on the bus claim one by one that they are having a heart attack and must head to the hospital immediately.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: By showing a literal fourth wall, the spot the camera normally sits. Ted notices a door for the first time. Whatever's behind it is magical.note
- Montages: Robin and Ted tell lots and lots of stories.
- Rousing Speech: Barney gives one to the bus driver to try and get him to divert to the hospital. Initially subverted in that the driver refuses to reroute. But then all the seniors on the bus fake heart attacks to force the driver to go to the hospital instead of Buffalo.
- Screaming Birth: "WHERE THE HELL IS MARSHALL?!"
- Strange Minds Think Alike: Surprisingly, both Marshall, Lily, and Ted all agree that Barney's choice of Wait-For-It is the coolest middle name ever.
- Unreliable Narrator: Barney and Marshall couldn't immediately leave Atlantic City because of..."the big thing." Future!Ted was at a loss of what it was. It could've been a cheerleader convention, a porn convention, or a sci-fi convention.
- What's a Henway?: When Lily has a contraction in the middle of Ted and Robin arguing by telling stories.Robin: That was not cool, Ted.
