Mabel and Grunkle Stan "enjoy" the various oddities of Gravity Falls public television.

Tropes

  • A Day In The Lime Light: Stan, Duck-tective, Gideon, Soos, Durland and Blubbs all get focus here.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": During the scene in the Mystery Shack commercial where there are two Mr. Mysterys, the first one is meant to act shocked over seeing another one, but Stan's delivery is very dull.
  • Call-Back: An instrumental version of "Widdle Ol’ Me" can be heard during the ad for "Lil’ Gideon’s Big House".
  • Cartoon Penguin: "Duck-tective" has a penguin with this appearance, including an orange bill, black body and white belly.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: Duck-tective quits and swims away for good...until he's easily lured back with bread.
  • Foreshadowing: The scene with the “two” Mr. Mysterys in the Mystery Shack ad becomes this trope in Season 2.
    "I’m the REAL Mr. Mystery!"
  • Furry Reminder: All over the place in "Duck-Tective”.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The Constable becomes very jealous of Duck-tective's friendship with Steve.
  • Ice-Cream Koan: "Soos Says Some Words"
Soos: If you accidentally eat the prize in your box of cereal, does that make you a specially marked box?
  • Kitschy Local Commercial: Stan's badly-produced and badly-edited TV spot for the Mystery Shack.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Gideon's aptly nicknamed cellmate, Ghost Eyes.
  • Nightmare Face: Stan’s close up at the end of the Mystery Shack ad, complete with Evil Laugh.
    • Ghost Eyes is rather...unsettling.
  • No Budget: In-Universe; Durland and Blubb’s PSA spared every expense.
  • N-Word Privileges: Duck-Tective and Steve on bird-related puns.
Constable: I thought you always hated those jokes.
Duck-tective: [subtitled] We can make those jokes.
  • Special Effects Failure:
    • In-universe: the sticks that are taped to Duck-tective in order to move his wings are visible in some shots.
    • Stan's woeful attempts at interacting with himself via green-screen.
  • Stylistic Suck: The Mystery Shack ad. All of it.
  • Totally Radical: Durland and Blubb's god-awful PSA on peer pressure.
    "Uh-UH, no-no, bippity-bop, KAZOW! I can't be pressured, no WAY, no HOW!"
  • We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties: At the end of the commercial for Lil' Gideon's Big House; "Lil' Gideon's Big House will return as soon as we contain this riot."

Mystery Shack commercial

Grunkle Stan's commercial for the Mystery Shack is as cheap as he is, including obvious green-screening and numerous flubs left in.

How well does it match the trope?
