Tropes

  • Admiring the Abomination: Lucius is utterly fascinated by the plant life rapidly growing inside Ivy's victim.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Alfred tracks the killer down to a bar where Harvey just happens to be working.
  • Death by Secret Identity: The toymaker gets shot after telling Nygma he was the one who hired the toymaker.
  • Evil Is Petty: The waitress' boyfriend murdered her for talking to someone, and framed Alfred for sticking his nose in their business to defend her.
  • Frame-Up: Alfred gets framed for a waitress' murder by her boyfriend.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Jim and Lee's conversation about her employing Ed, when he's standing right next to them.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Gordon learns about Lee's new position in the Narrows. When he asked Barbara for information, he automatically assumed that the "Doc" was a man, and Barbara intentionally didn't mention gender.
    • Gordon and Selina also learn about Alfred's firing.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: Ed's Riddler persona is acting on its own again, hiring Krank to kill Lee.
  • Kick the Dog: Ivy nearly let Selina die from her personal poison to show off her abilities. Granted she gave her an antidote, but it shows that their relationship has shifted dramatically, and not for the better.
  • Killer Robot: A toy robot with a bomb attached to its back.
    "Seek and destroy!"
  • Lampshade Hanging: Lucius points out just how inappropriately creepy the Krank's Toy Store is. This is not a place to bring a child on their birthday.
  • Mugging the Monster: One of the street punks who finds Ivy tries to put advances on her, and ends up killed for his troubles.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Alfred's temper over the waitress' death is only making him look guilty.
  • The Nth Doctor: Ivy's on her third actress.
  • Poisonous Person: This aspect of Ivy's characterization from the comics is finally brought into the show.
  • They Were Holding You Back: From what Griffin Krank tells Nygma, this seems to be why the Riddler persona put a hit on Lee.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Ivy is no longer the "adult child" she was before, but now cool, confident, and prepared to use her power to ravage Gotham.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The trio who tried to rob Alfred became friendly when they learned that Alfred helped save the people from the burning building. The instigator even confessed he wouldn't have done it himself and offers a friendly handshake. Alfred returns the handshake and hands him a free drink, burying the hatchet.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Harvey calls out Gordon for never listening to others, working with Sofia and only wanting him back on the force to get Harvey to forgive him.
    • Selina gives one to Bruce for firing Alfred and acting like a spoiled rich boy.
"What are you trying to prove?!"
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Lucius' reaction to one of Krank's killer toys, namely a robot with a bomb strapped to its back.
