Directed by Rob Bailey

Written by Bruno Heller

Following the Penguin's revelation that he's still alive, Gordon's problems with the law are over, but his problems with the mob have gotten much worse.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: As Falcone tends to his chickens, Penguin approaches the coop and calls out to him as his theme menacingly plays, seemingly about to assassinate him. Falcone then smiles, greets Oswald as an old friend and hugs his spy in Maroni's circle.
  • Conveniently Timed Distraction: When Bullock pulls a gun on Gordon in the locker room for not killing Oswald, two police officers arrives to see what's going on. While Bullock is telling the officers to go away, Gordon uses this opportunity to disarm him.
  • Cruel Mercy: Falcone lets Gordon and Bullock live, because he wants to break Gordon and have yet another cop in his pocket. Only not, it turns out that he let Jim live as a favour to Oswald.
  • I Have Your Wife: In the midst of their Mexican Standoff, Falcone reveals he has Barbara. While Gordon was content for everyone to die, including himself, he wasn't willing to let her die.
  • Made of Iron: Two bullet wounds, one in the gut and one in the leg, should have left Gordon in bed for days. Instead he's up and about like nothing happened after just a few hours. Lampshaded by the nurse, who tells him he should be in bed for a week.
  • Mexican Standoff: Gordon and Bullock get into Falcone's estate by kidnapping (arresting) the Mayor. Once inside, they have guns pointed at Falcone, reasoning being that both Gordon and Bullock are willing to die if it means taking Falcone down, too. But Falcone Takes a Third Option.
  • The Mole: The end of the episode reveals that Penguin set himself up as the mole, begging for Falcone's mercy, orchestrating many of the season's major events, including the war between the families and the death of Captain Nikolai.
  • Pet the Dog: Penguin using his position as Falcone's mole to keep Jim alive.
  • Take a Third Option: Gordon's plan: Con his way into Falcone's estate, then arrest the mob boss. Or everyone dies, including Falcone. Either way, it's a win, right? Unfortunately, Falcone has Barbara.
