It was another day of saving Princess Peach from Bowser's clutches for Mario. But he's in for a surprise when a certain Spiked Paragoomba has finally learned to control his powers. He turns Mario into a Goomba, making him fear what Peach is going to think of him in this shape. Mario, however, still goes to save her even with this setback.
He finds a way to blend in with the other Goombas in order to get closer to Peach—who, despite Mario's initial thoughts, recognizes Mario in his Goomba form and loves him all the same. But Mario's plan may be working too well, as Bowser was completely fooled by Mario's disguise. He puts the Goombas through some IQ tests to see how smart they are. To his surprise, Goomba!Mario passed all of the tests. What he didn't realize, though, was that Mario secretly kept Peach's cage unlocked, so that she can escape herself and help Mario when the coast is clear. Which she does.
Now free from Bowser's Castle, Peach and Mario run into the culprit behind Mario's unexpected transformation. She taunts the Paragoomba, angering him enough to charge his energy at her, and then puts Mario in the line of fire, changing him back to normal.
Later got renamed "Mario's Transformation" for reasons unknown.

Tropes applying to Mario's Unexpected Transformation:
- Almost Kiss: Mario's Imagine Spot has him leaning toward Peach's face for a kiss, which is interrupted by her freaking out at the sight of his Goomba form.
- Assumed Win: After a Microgoomba claimed to have given Mario a "game over" by running into him, Bowser promotes him to Goomba Commander, without even bothering to send someone to check for the body, or give him time to be reported missing, or anything. Even Goomba!Mario can't help but shake his head as Bowser eats it up.
- Bad Boss: Downplayed. Bowser clearly doesn't expect much from his Goombas, but he's treated his minions worse.
- Big Damn Heroes: Peach.

- The Spiked Magical Paragoomba was actually from Luigi's Quest. His powers were hard to control when he received them, but he apparently learned to control them overtime.

- Fantastic Racism: Bowser saying he's more fun than Goombas could be considered racist.

- Never Trust a Trailer: While more of an interpretation-related example, a screenshot for this episode Goomzilla posted on his Twitter showed Bowser, a medal-ed Microgoomba, Goomba!Mario, and a picture of Bowser, Luigi, and a Goomba in agony. This screenshot alone makes it seem like Bowser was the one who turned Mario into a Goomba so that he will be crushed by his own brother.
- Ninja Pirate Robot Zombie: What you get when you take a regular Goomba and give it a spike top, wings, and Kamek's magic.
- Surrounded by Idiots: While trying to blend in with the other Goombas, Mario is forced to tolerate their idiocy as they can't pass their IQ test to save their lives. He also finds it hard to believe that Bowser would just buy the Microgoomba's story about how he supposedly offed Mario, and medal him just like that.
- Too Dumb to Live: The Goombas manage to show Epic Fail after Epic Fail during their IQ test. Bowser also qualifies for not being able to tell Mario from a regular Goomba, while Peach can.
- Women Are Wiser: Peach is the only person to recognize Mario as a Goomba.
