The words were changed, choreography not

The McKinley High production of Grease opens, and Santana returns to help out with it when Wade is pulled out. Rachel also has another run in with Cassandra, her dance instructor, and Kurt and Rachel visit Lima, resulting in Cassandra seducing Brody to spite Rachel. Kitty convinces Marley that she is genetically predisposed to be overweight and that she needs to induce vomit in order to maintain a healthy weight. Ryder finds Marley trying to vomit in the bathroom. He tells her that she looks good and that what she is doing is not healthy, and kisses her backstage as Jake looks on. At the choir room, New Directions celebrates the positive reviews of "Grease". Will says his goodbyes to the glee club before leaving, and Finn officially takes over.

Next Time: Hilarious in Hindsight personified, as we see Blaine question his place at McKinley, a triangle take shape, and finally... Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Ryan Murphy looking three years into the future. Seriously.

Songs (all from Grease)

  • Greased Lightning by Ryder with New Directions boys, Finn, and Mike
  • Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee by Kitty with New Directions girls
    • Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee (Reprise) by Marley
  • Beauty School Drop Out by Blaine with New Directions girls, Santana, and Kitty
  • There Are Worse Things I Could Do by Santana with Cassie and Unique
  • You're the One That I Want by New Directions and Alumni

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: You all thought Ryder's cousin was going to die at the end of that story.
  • Bowdlerise: Many of the lyrics had to be changed, especially the infamous "chicks'll cream" line from Greased Lightning.
  • Call-Back: The "Glease" album not only included all the songs from this episode, but also two from the episode before (Hopelessly Devoted To You and Born To Hand Jive) and Summer Nights performed by the glee club in season 3.
  • Commuting on a Bus: Matthew Morrison, who takes the next episode off, returns for the Thanksgiving episode, cameos in the Christmas Episode, then returns properly five episodes after that.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Even though Sue highly mistreats her Cheerios, she doesn't want them outside training in winter. This is Played for Laughs because of both the hypocrisy and so the reasoning that she's only doing it to annoy Finn (the petty, minor inconvenience of it making it funnier). However, the reason is that she doesn't want anyone to get pneumonia - in season 2 her Morality Pet sister died of pneumonia, so this possibility may be the one thing that brings out some reason in her and the one thing she won't risk or wish on anyone. She could well have planned to book out the auditorium and gym for the whole winter before Finn crossed her (twice), and it just seemed like she was being a bitch.

  • Politically Incorrect Hero/What the Hell, Hero?: Finn calls Robin retarded.
  • The Cameo: Harry Shum Jr as Mike Chang and Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones.
