New Directions members deal with their own conflicts by performing songs created by feuding artists. Santana starts to distrust Brody, as she thinks he is hiding something and after she confronts him at NYADA, she is asked by Rachel and Kurt to move out. Brody is later revealed to be a gigolo. Meanwhile, Ryder starts online chatting with a mysterious girl, with whom he expresses great interest. Finn confronts Brody because of Rachel.
Next Time: We revel in the pleasures so guilty. Plus, the Disposable Love Interest gets more comeuppance.
Songs:
- "How To Be A Heartbreaker" by Marina Diamandis, performed by Brody and Rachel
- "The Bitch Is Back/Dress You Up" by Elton John and Madonna, performed by Ryder and Unique
- "Cold Hearted" by Paula Abdul, performed by Santana with the NYADA students
- "Bye Bye Bye/I Want It That Way", by N Sync and Backstreet Boys, performed by Will and Finn
- "I Still Believe/Super Bass" by Brenda Starr (Mariah Carey version) and Nicki Minaj, performed by Blaine and Sue with New Directions and the Cheerios
- "Closer" by Tegan & Sara, performed by New Directions*
Tropes:
- Artistic License: Forgery or no, Blaine's signature is not legally binding on a contract because he's under 18.
- Award Bait: Submitted for Jane Lynch's Emmy nomination. Not Naya Rivera's, but that's never going to happen.
- Fourth-Wall Observer: Sue (again, as always) delivers a large criticism of the show: in life you can't join and quit as you please when you're not throwing confetti at everyone or crying.
- Hand Wave: "Don't apply logic to the Lopez"
- Ladies and Germs: Sue's completely un-PC "Ladies, gays, inbetweeners, and hag for life"
- Ms. Fanservice: Three words: San-tan-ahhhhhh.
- One-Liner: Kurt's "Bitch took my pillow" after Santana has been kicked out.
- Pop-Up Texting
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Santana could write books about these and also truly deserves her own "best snark lecture" award.
- Shout-Out: A great visual shot of the hotel room that's reminiscent of The Shining.
- The auditorium dance during "Closer" has a Shout-Out to The Breakfast Club.
- Three Minutes of Writhing: "Cold Hearted"
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Ryder lists off all the glee kids, but doesn't mention Joe or Sugar.
