New Directions celebrates the holidays, and the group is faced with a dilemma when they agree to perform at two different events that turn out to be scheduled at the exact same time. Rory suffers from homesickness, and bonds with Sam, who is also away from his family. Artie is set to direct a Christmas special for a local network and is inspired to do a tribute to Christmas specials of old.

Tropes:
- But Not Too Gay: Kurt and Blaine refer to each other as holiday roommates, but Santana and Brittany get to hold hands and snuggle.
- Dawson Casting: The performance of "Santa Baby" by Naya Rivera was definitely not starring a teenager.
- Deliberately Monochrome: The TV spot scenes, designed to emulate The '50s.
- Directed by Cast Member: Matthew Morrison directs, able to because he has a greatly reduced part in this episode.
- In-Universe the glee kids help direct the TV spot they're in.
- Shout-Out: To Star Wars and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
- Somewhere, a Mammalogist Is Crying: In Rachel’s name, Finn donates a sow to help feed a starving family in Africa. While the pig in question was presumably a domestic pig, the picture of it instead shows a warthog.
- True Meaning of Christmas: The moral.
