Merry Fisticuffs

Lorelai and Christopher look at houses. Emily is throwing Lorelai's wedding party. Liz tricks Luke into babysitting her new baby. Lorelai runs into him with the baby while waiting for Christopher, who doesn't like the picture.

Anna decides not to let Luke have contact with April anymore. Luke talks to a lawyer.

Tropes

  • Artistic License – Law: The family lawyer claims that Luke has no paternal rights to speak of.
  • Babies Make Everything Better: Christopher figures the best solution to his jealousy over Luke is to have another one with Lorelai.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Lorelai pretends a call is about an emergency so she can get out of her mother's house, but Emily can hear Rory speaking calmly on the other end.
    • Rory tries to pass Logan off as her brother to get a discount. She talks about it while in line.
    • Marty's lie about not knowing Rory comes apart when Logan tells Lucy that they know each other.
    • Kirk claims in a shaky voice he's not afraid of the twelve-year-olds hunting him down.
  • Continuity Nod: Logan tells Lucy that Rory and Marty used to hang out and watch Duck Soup.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Emily doesn't realize that the point of eloping is to not have all the fuss with everyone being there – to Lorelai. Christopher doesn't see it like that.
  • Elopement: Discussed. Lorelai thinks they eloped to avoid all the fuzz around arranging a wedding. Chris disagrees.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Though she's too young to have an opinion of it herself, Doula being named for the type of midwife she had is kind of objectively this.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Rory is annoyed that Lucy and Olivia never call anyone by their name. It's how they blindsided her with Marty. She still doesn't know who French-Fry Guy is; for all she knows it's Logan.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Luke and Christopher have a wordless fistfight in the town square.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Logan doesn't like that Marty maybe still likes Rory.
  • Manchild: Emily thinks Christopher is this, and that he is unable to keep a marriage going without serious mothering from his wife. She's not wrong.
  • Mars and Venus Gender Contrast: Rory thinks it's more like Venus and a bowl of soup.
  • "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name: Rory claims to be Rory "High-Stakes Deception" Gilmore.
  • Product Placement: Food items.
  • Pun: Usually, a wedding party is the party of the bride and groom and a few other people, not an actual party, but Emily throws one anyway.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stalker with a Crush: Lucy claims she and Marty met because Marty stalked her, albeit in an insidious way by coming to watch her play every night. Technically he could have been "stalking" any of the actors in it.
  • Themed Party: Discussed for Lorelai's wedding party. She wants the theme to be either "man's inhumanity to man" or "everyone leaves by 8:30". The party designer wants it to be La Bohème.
  • Wine Is Classy: Defied by Lorelai, who vows not to spit out the wine at the wine tasting for the party her mother is throwing her like fancy people do.
