Go To

The eleventh episode of the third season of Garfield and Friends.

Post-Opening Sequence Line: "I'd like to buy a vowel, please."

Count Lasagna

Jon attempts to pitch a comic book featuring Dracula's cat "Count Lasagna".

Mystery Guest

Roy hosts a gameshow called "Mystery Guest" with a tractor as a prize and Garfield as the mystery guest. Orson's brothers show up to try and steal the tractor, only to wind up guessing who the mystery guest is, with all of their answers being wrong.

Rodent Rampage

Floyd's cousin Tyrone visits and is surprised upon discovering Garfield does not chase mice. Once Jon discovers the mice in his house, he tries to get Garfield to chase mice by bribing him with sausage lasagna. After an unsuccessful attempt at rounding up the mice the traditional way, including a lot of Tom and Jerry references, Garfield resorts to the more tactical means he used to get rid of opportunistic mice in the past.

"Count Lasagna" contains examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point / Fun with Homophones: When Dracula alerts Count Lasagna the villagers are storming the castle, and bringing a stake.
Count Lasagna: (excited, leaps onto Dracula's shoulder) A STEAK?! Tell them that I want it medium rare with some sauteed mushrooms! (Dracula makes an annoyed face)
Dracula: Not that kind of steak!
    Count Lasagna: Oh.
  • Stock "Yuck!": Instead of using garlic to ward off Count Lasagna, the villagers use a collar of raisins.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: To Count Lasagna, it's anything with tomato, garlic and over 400 calories.
  • Vampire Episode: Jon tells his boss a story about a Dracula-like vampire and his vampire cat played by Jon and Garfield. It turns out that Jon's boss does not like the story because he's a werewolf.
  • Vampires Hate Garlic: Defied; Count Lasagna loves garlic due to his Trademark Favorite Food being Italian cuisine. Thus, the villagers use a collar of raisins to ward him off.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: Count Lasagna is hated by the villagers even more so than Dracula, despite the fact that he feasts on their Italian cuisine (Spaghetti, garlic bread, lasagna, pizza) instead of their own blood.
  • Who Would Want to Watch Us?: Jon's boss scoffs at the concept of vampires, let alone a vampire cat.
  • Wolf Man: The man Jon is working for turns out to be one, and resembles the Trope Namer to boot.

"Mystery Guest" contains examples of:

  • Paper-Thin Disguise: It's just Garfield with a black blindfold (with holes) over his eyes. Even Jon couldn't figure it was him.
  • Take That!: During Roy's song about the Mystery guest, he gives us this line:
    "If you need help, I'll give you a clue;
He's not a singing raisinnote  and he's not painted blue!"
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Orson assures Roy that there's nobody in the world so stupid that they don't know that Garfield is the Mystery Guest. Cut to Orson's brothers watching the show and having no idea who the Mystery Guest is.

"Rodent Rampage" contains examples of:

  • All There in the Script: The lion's name is Tamerus el Dominus.
  • Alliterative Title: Rodent Rampage.
  • Denied Food as Punishment: Jon threatens to deny Garfield his lasagna if he doesn't get rid of the mice. Eventually Garfield tires out and tells Jon it's not even worth sausage lasagna, much to Jon's surprise.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Happens to Garfield when Tyrone feeds him tabasco sauce.
  • Here We Go Again!: The lion got rid of the mice, but turns out to be an even bigger problem.
  • Jerkass Ball: Floyd usually is nice to Garfield and understanding of his predicaments and has defended him against the Kitty Council and mice who were taking advantage of Garfield. Here, he did nothing to stop Tyrone from being a Jerkass and even went along with him.
  • A Mischief of Mice: Tyrone comes to visit and is surprised when he discovers that Garfield doesn't chase mice, so he takes advantage of this by taking over Jon's house. Once Jon discovers Tyrone, he tries to get Garfield to catch him by bribing him with sausage lasagna. Tyrone takes every step to ensure that Garfield doesn't catch him, such as putting him through traps and even feeding him tabasco sauce. Even Floyd, who is usually nice to Garfield, does nothing to stop Tyrone and even goes along with him.
  • No Ending: Garfield and Jon now are hiding on top of their refrigerator to avoid the lion, with no idea on how to get rid of him.
  • Shout-Out: During the "There's a Mouse in the House" song, Jon is seen dressed like Sorcerer Mickey (albeit with an orange robe and hat) and he uses magic to control several brooms.
  • Victory Is Boring: Tyrone's opinion of a cat that doesn't chase mice.
  • Wraparound Background: Lampshaded; when Garfield chases Tyrone throughout Jon's living room, he turns to the audience and asks them if they've ever noticed how long hallways are in cartoon chase scenes.
