"Fraidy Cat" provides examples of:

  • Banana Peel: One of the traps Garfield sets for the monster is spreading banana peels on the floor. Jon ends up slipping on them.
  • Big Eater: Garfield. When the power goes out, he eats all the food in the refrigerator to keep it from spoiling.
  • Evil Overlooker: This episode's title card has the movie's monster looking down at a frightened Garfield and Odie.
  • Furniture Blockade: Garfield and Odie block the door with furniture so that the monster can't get in. They end up locking Jon when he returns from the store out as a result.
  • Key Under the Doormat: Jon eventually manages to get in through the back door by using the key he keeps under the nearby doormat.
  • Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: Done with pets instead of kids; Garfield spends the night watching a horror movie and thinks that Jon is being attacked by the movie's monster when Jon leaves to buy groceries.
  • Pet the Dog: A half-literal example; Garfield lets Odie sleep in his bed when Odie is too scared of the movie to sleep by himself.
  • Power Outage Plot: The power goes out in the middle of the monster movie that Garfield and Odie watch. The power goes back on after Garfield captures Jon, whom he believes to be the monster.

"Shell Shocked Sheldon" provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: Orson's superhero alter-ego is Power Pig.
  • Alliterative Title: Shell Shocked Sheldon.
  • Baseball Episode: This episode begins with Orson and his friends playing baseball. Roy runs to home base, and when Wade tries to tag him out, the two argue over whether Wade tagged Roy out or Roy safely made it to home base.
  • Egg Sitting: Orson goes to the chicken coop to see which of the hens will hatch Sheldon, only to find they have all gone on strike because they are all tired of working for chicken feed. He decides to sit on Sheldon to hatch him himself.
  • Eggshell Clothing: In this episode, Orson decides to hatch Sheldon so that he no longer has to wear his eggshell. When he finally hatches Sheldon, another shell is revealed to be underneath.
  • Evil Overlooker: This episode's title card depicts the Fox, clad in a bib, looking down at Sheldon, who is standing in a frying pan, as he covers him with salt.
  • Foul Fox: This episode marks the first appearance of the Fox, who tries to hunt Sheldon.
  • Human Hammer-Throw: Sheldon does this to the Fox the second time the Fox tries to capture him.
  • Metronomic Man Mashing: Sheldon does this to the Fox the second time the Fox tries to capture him.
  • Running Gag: Throughout the episode, Roy and Wade argue over whether Wade tagged Roy out or Roy safely made it to home base.
  • Status Quo is God: When Sheldon hatches, he is revealed to have another shell underneath his shell, meaning he will always be an egg with legs.
  • Super Zeroes: Orson sometimes tries to fight crime as his superhero alter-ego, Power Pig, dressing in a pair of aviator goggles, a blue undershirt with a giant letter P on the chest, and a pair of red- and white-striped shorts. As Power Pig, Orson has the power to subdue his enemies by making them laugh so hard at his ridiculous costume that they can't do anything else. In this episode, Roy uses this tactic on the Fox to distract him while Orson rescues Sheldon.

"Nothing to Sneeze At provides examples of":

  • Abnormal Allergy: Discussed; Garfield wonders if he's allergic to lasagna, and asks how he'd survive if that was the case, concluding that he'd sneeze a lot.
  • Big Eater: Garfield. When Liz asks Jon what Garfield's eaten lately which might have contributed to his allergy, Jon tells her, "Pizza, lasagna, chocolate pie, stew, lamb, veal, chop suey, some tacos, knockwurst, a pastrami on rye, tapioca pudding, and soup." Liz asks Jon if Garfield really all that in one week, and Jon tells her that it was just his breakfast this morning.
  • Disrupting the Theater: Garfield sneezes at the theater during the reveal of who murdered the Duke, which upsets Liz enough to get her to leave during Jon's date with her. The usher then appears and kicks both Jon and Garfield out.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Jon catches Garfield sneezing, he starts to hope Garfield's not sick, but then uses this opportunity to take Garfield to the vet so he can ask Liz out on a date.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Liz decides to give Jon another chance after realizing how much he loves Garfield, Jon tells Garfield that they'll stop at a burger restaurant on their way home, only to realize that he left his car keys and wallet inside his jacket after Garfield gave it to a hobo.
  • Ill-Timed Sneeze:
    • Garfield sneezes whenever he is near Jon's jacket, and at one point, this causes him to let go of the steering wheel of Jon's car when Jon tries to take him to the vet.
    • Garfield sneezes at the movie theater during the reveal of who the murderer of the Duke was.
  • Plot Allergy: Garfield is revealed to be allergic to Jon's jacket, as he sneezes every time he gets near it.
  • Stock "Yuck!":
    • One of the reasons why Garfield wants to go with Jon on his date with Liz is because the only thing on TV tonight is a document on raisin sorting.
    • When Garfield sneaks into Jon's car through his box of candy, he spits one candy out and says "Coconut! Yecch!"
