Tropes That Apply to the Chapter
- Amusing Injuries:
- Hazel's rather painful entrance.
- The believed reasoning behind the disgusting challenge is to invoke this, only it clearly didn't work.
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- The first challenge and how it was handled is considered both a confusing introduction to the show, and one that horribly represents the latter half of the story(or much of anything past the seventh episode of the season).
- Despite arriving with one another, Izaya and Juvia's status as an Official Couple is completely ignored throughout the episode, and we aren't actually given any context into their actual relationship either.
- Everyone Meets Everyone: With exception of Izaya and Juvia(who have been dating for years prior to the show), every contestant meets each other for the first time in this episode.
- Foreshadowing: Kyah stating that she hopes to make an impact on the show and help her stand out was clearly setting up to her elimination this episode.
- Sarcasm Mode: Just about everything Izaya says to anyone but Juvia is clearly very sarcastic and deadpan in tone.
- Summer Campy: The setting of the series is a dated and old summer camp.
- Out of Focus: Mimi receives barely any focus this episode, not even having a line the entire time or doing much of anything. Some people even forgot she was in this chapter at all.
- Welcome Episode: For the campers as a whole, introducing just about every element of the competition and a handful of plots for the season.
