Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Berserk Button: When the military police say finish their description of the Fullmetal Alchemist as short, Ed bites a shishkebob skewer in half. The next we see, the soldiers are either unconscious or immediately about to be.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Greedling, after being absent for 14 episodes.
    • Ed himself, after being absent for two consecutive episodes (a rather long time considering he's the main character).
  • Failed a Spot Check: Turns out Father didn't wipe Greed's memories as thoroughly as he'd thought.
  • Fanservice: Winry's bathtub scene.
  • Genetic Memory: This episode shows that Greed has this, and the current incarnation gains the previous one's memories as a result of this trauma from killing Bido.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: When the military begins chasing after the car that Ed, Darius, and Heinkel are escaping in, they manage to shake their pursuers by pulling over and disguising the car. The military drives right past it.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Bido, thanks to Greed stabbing him through the gut with his hand.
  • Just Following Orders: Greed assures Bido after killing him that it was nothing personal, he was simply doing his job by guarding the tunnels.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Greed, after killing Bido and then subsequently regaining his memories from his first incarnation, which causes him to remember that Bido was once his friend.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: General Gardner reveals to Olivier that the Mannequin Soldier will be powered by Philosopher's Stones made from the souls of people whose lands they intend to conquer.
  • Reconstruction: Although Ed initially was guilt-ridden over how they couldn't prevent Father Cornelius's plan to create bloodshed in Reole, Rose points out to Winry that the Elric brothers did leave an impact on the town. After the upheaval caused by "Father Cornelius'", Ed's words gave her and all of Reole the strength to move on with their lives and rebuild the town.
  • The Scream: The episode ends on Greed doing this after he regains his memories. It's effectively chilling.
  • The Stinger: Greed, after regaining his memories, invades the Bradley household and attacks Wrath.
  • Title Drop: Ed complains that he's not an invalid, he's back and revving at full throttle.
  • That Man Is Dead: The current incarnation of Greed tries to insist this is the case for his previous incarnation, and that the latter's memories aren't part of him anymore. Ling doesn't buy it.
  • Villainous BSoD: Greed at the very end of the episode, after remembering that the chimera he just killed was his loyal follower from his past life.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Ling does not hold back in reaming out Greed after the latter kills Bido, who was the first Greed's last surviving minion.
  • Wig, Dress, Accent: The MPs don't have a photo of Ed, just a written description of a short male with a blonde braid and a red coat. They ask for information from Ed... who is in a white coat with his hair down. (But is equally short.)
  • Wistful Amnesia: At first, Greed has no qualms about killing Bido despite the latter's pleas that they're friends. But shortly after, he experiences emotional pain over killing Bido, without knowing why he should care at all. Despite his insistence that his previous memories mean nothing, Ling lividly lampshades that he'll never truly forget his friends. This culminates in Greed letting out an anguished scream over having killed his own friend.
