Ross attempts to get a tan, with disastrous results. Rachel and Joey have trouble turning their relationship physical. Monica and Phoebe are visited by an obnoxious old neighbor of theirs.

- The Art of Bra Removal: Joey is proud of being an expert at removing bras, even claiming to have once popped open a bra just by looking at it. So he's pretty frustrated when he's having trouble undoing Rachel's. When Monica admits it was her bra that he undid by looking at Chandler starts staring at her in an attempt to do the same (he fails).
- Better as Friends: Rachel and Joey finally and with a heavy heart decide this is true for their relationship.
- Brick Joke: Joey claims he once popped open a bra just by looking at it.Rachel: He couldn't even undo my bra.
Monica: Wow, really? One time he just looked at my bra, and it popped open. - Determinator: Phoebe admits she did try to cut Monica out of her life, but Monica's sheer persistence made that impossible.
- Epic Fail: Ross attempts to get a simple spray-on tan, which results in him getting sprayed on his front six times in a row when he fails to follow the instructions of two different tanning salons, while his back hasn't been sprayed at all.
- Escape Call: Monica sets one of these up before she and Phoebe are due to meet Amanda. The plan is for Chandler to call claiming he and Mike were in an accident giving the girls an excuse to leave. Before the call comes through Amanda reveals that Phoebe once tried to cut Monica out of her life the way she suggested they cut Amanda out. When the phone rings Monica takes the opportunity to escape but leaves Phoebe to deal with Amanda as payback.
- Groin Attack: Rachel accidentally knees Joey in the crotch while trying to seduce him, which completely kills the mood.
- Idiot Ball: When Ross discovers the new tanning booth has two sets of nozzles, he guesses which ones will go off first rather than step out of the booth.
- Last-Second Word Swap: When Monica gives Ross the address of her spray-tan place.Ross: Hey, I know where this place is! It used to be an X-rated video... florist.
- Noodle Incident: Phoebe claims she held up well under torture, much to Monica's confusion.
- One True Love: Given the constant difficulties they've been experiencing, Joey and Rachel ask Chandler if it was this awkward when he and Monica hooked up. He says that, while sneaking around was no picnic, him and Monica simply being together just felt right from the get go.
- Platonic Declaration of Love: Joey and Rachel give each other one at the end.
- Tan Lines: Due to some mishaps, Ross only manages to get his front very heavily tanned. The resulting contrast between his front and his back is strong.
- Their First Time: Joey and Rachel's first make out session is awkward. As they start kissing and groping, Joey tries to put his hand on her thigh but she reflexively slaps it away. She apologizes, but then keeps slapping it away, and even slaps Joey on his face. Then Joey tries to remove her bra, but he fumbles it, which is unusual because he's usually an expert. On the final time, Rachel insists on "powering through", but is so forceful she accidentally knees Joey in the groin.
- Unit Confusion: At the tanning booth, Ross is told that after he gets sprayed in the front to count to five then turn around to spray the back. Unfortunately, Ross counts "Mississipily" (one Mississippi, two Mississippi, etc., which is actually used to count seconds) and is sprayed too soon.
