Soma and Takumi's duel at Training Camp continues, as Soma figures how to step up to his new rival. The Training from Hell is just starting
This episode provides examples of:
- Bait-and-Switch: When Soma crashes into Erina while she's leaving the baths, multiple close-ups make it appear she's still naked, but she's wearing a robe.
- Big Eater: The Body-Builders camp that served as clients devoured every meal set and asked for seconds. Considering that near 1000 students had to make a minimum of 50 servings that's a ton of food.
- Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Both Soma and Erina were humming the ending song "Spice" as he is heading to the baths and she is already bathing. While Erina is very well in tune, Soma is comically humming it out of tune.
- Evolving Credits: The rotating dish in the opening changed. For the ending "Spice" (this time an extended version of the song), the foodgasm reaction is from Takumi and Isami.
- Exact Words: Hinako says that the students can use anything as an ingredient, so long as it's inside the fenced-off area they're in. Soma chooses the teacher's o-kaki-age.
- The Faceless: The Aldini's father never shows his face. The one who talks to them about Tootsuki is their uncle, while his brother is in the back giving the back to the camera.
- Failed Dramatic Exit: Just as Takumi declared that he will challenge Soma to a proper Shokugeki, he leaves the room saying that they will see each other in said match. Moments later...Takumi: We will meet again, Yukihira Soma.(moments later at the bus, they're together)Soma: Hey. We met again.Takumi (embarrased) SHUT UP! DON'T TALK TO ME!!
- Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Both Soma and Erina are humming the Ending Theme. Soma is specially humming it off-key.
- Hope Spot: Yuuki thought that the day was over once they finished their tasks with the alumni and they had the rest of the night to enjoy the luxurious hotel. Then turns out that they still had another challenge and they had to fix their own meals. Ryoko could literally hear Yuuki's heart breaking.
- Male Gaze:
- Hinako's foodgasm had her as a mermaid in a tight top around her big breasts.
- Those close-ups focus on Erina's cleavage, thighs and nape. Prior to that, we see her relax in the bath and get out with her back to the camera.
- Mood Whiplash:
- Just as Takumi challenges Soma and declares that they will meet again at a Shokugeki, the following scene has them sharing the same row at the bus.
- As soon as they got to the hotel room, Yuuki already thought they would have a nice dinner and spa night at the hotel. Cut to their next challenge and a bunch of muscular guys.
- Impossibly Delicious Food: Soma's dish was a Char O-KAKI-age — Fried fish with a batter coat of Kaki seeds (a soy-flavored nut snack) and a Tamago no Moto (a form of mayo) sauce made by Megumi. Hinako's reaction to it is imagining herself as a mermaid trying to reach the surface and being held by a Kaki-Merman.
- The Rival: Invoked. Takumi's father sent his sons to Tootsuki because he felt that Takumi was lacking passion, thing that he could recover by having a Worthy Opponent. Then Soma appeared and Takumi knew he had found one.
- On Soma's part, while he didn't take Takumi seriously as such, Soma mentally acknowleged his skills and wondered if he would have met a rival like him if his father never made him attended the school.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: As Hinako is about to decide on a winner and has trouble with it, Koujirou immediately calls her to get her group back, to which she declared it a draw and sent everyone back to the buses while she fled.
- Second Place Is for Losers: Even though nobody won or lost, Takumi still felt like the tie was a loss.
- Spoiler Title: The episode tries to play up the mystery of what Soma wants to do with the o-kaki-age, but the title makes it pretty easy to figure out that it's for breading the fish.
