Recap / Film Reroll: Doctor Who: Day of the Moon

Paulo: So this time with the end of the episode we're gonna do something a little bit different.
Kara: This time?!

The first Bonus Scene in Film Reroll, featured at the end of the first episode of their E.T. campaign. It's based on the second episode of Series Six of Doctor Who.

During the 1969 revolution against the Silence — an intergalactic religious order who have secretly taken control of planet Earth using their Psychic Powers — the Doctor's companion, Amy Pond, is kidnapped by the aliens and taken to an experimental space ship. Now the Doctor, along with his partner River Song and Amy's husband, Rory Williams, have to take the bull by the horns, rescue Amy, and defeat the Silence once and for all.

Starring Jon Miller as the Doctor, Kara Straitnote  as Amy Pond, Andy Hoover as Rory Williams and Paulo Quiros as the Dungeon Master.

Tropes:

  • Alternate History: The end of the session creates a new timeline, where apparently no wars were fought on Earth after the year 1969.
  • Brain Washing For The Greater Good: The Doctor uses the hypnotic suggestions of the Silence to create everlasting peace on Earth.
  • Character Shilling: Parodied When River Song pops out of the TARDIS and manages to shoot all eight villains in the room dead in four seconds (thanks to some very lucky dice rolls on Jocelyn's part), the other players jokingly accuse "the showrunner" of trying too hard to make her look awesome.
  • Damsel in Distress: Amy Pond is one for most of the campaign.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Jon Miller had not seen the episode in question, forcing him to come up with a plan all by himself. Just like the Doctor would have done.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: The players have a hard time keeping up their accents. Jon Miller starts sounding Scottish after a while, which is handwaved as him slowly regenerating into Peter Capaldi. Kara Strait, meanwhile, claims that her character is actually a Russian Spy.
  • Pungeon Master: Kara Strait manages to fit in four puns regarding the nature of the source series before Paulo Quiros has time note  to reveal its title. Ironically, Paulo accidentally references the show when telling Kara to stop.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Amy worries that Rory is just a Gold Digger.
Amy Pond: Are you sure you didn't just marry me for my money, because I'm clearly Scrooge McDuck.
    • After River takes out an entire room of bad guys in four seconds, it's remarked that there's just something about characters named River...
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In the original episode, the Doctor tricked the Silence into give humanity the order to "kill [them] all on sight." Here, he outright says that he doesn't want to do that, as he is unwilling to lower himself to their level. Instead, he tells humanity to arrest them, lock them up in Area 51, and ignore all their following orders. He also provides the police with neck braces which will mute the aliens, just in case.
