Recap / Fillmore Field Trip Of The Just

Go To

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Averted. Alexandria is visibly smitten with Eric, but he’s not as big of a bad boy as he lets on.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Alexandria is interested in Eric, who doesn’t seem to return her affections. Theldin is shown to be interested in Alexandria, though she doesn’t seem to be aware of how he feels.
  • Angry Guard Dog: Eric and Fillmore encounter a Doberman as one of these. Played with, though, as she has a fondness for belly rubs.
  • Animal Lover: Eric turns out to be one, with his teacher even revealing to Ingrid that he gets detention on purpose just so he can care for the classroom animals as punishment. As a result, he's the one person who doesn't believe Eric's guilty.
  • Be Yourself: At the end of the episode, Eric decides to stop pretending to be what he thinks his friends want him to be and becomes their tutor.
  • Brick Joke: O'Farrell tries to get a class parrot to reveal who the culprit is, only to get bitten. At the end of the episode, he's still trying to bribe the parrot, even though the case has already been solved.
  • Captured on Purpose: Eric's teacher reveals that he's a straight A student and has purposely been getting detention because he actually enjoys taking care of the animals as well as wanting his friends to see him as just like them.
  • Everybody Has Standards: Sanjay and Dimitri are horrified at the prospect of Eric poisoning Guildenstern.
  • Extreme Omni-Goat: Fillmore encounters one of these.
  • Friend to Bugs: It is revealed when Principal Folsom was a child, she had a pet tarantula. So she takes this case pretty hard.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Eric is an animal lover, as Fillmore and Ingrid discover. Given his secret fondness for Guildenstern, he also qualifies as Friend to Bugs.
  • "Get Out of Jail Free" Card: Fillmore gets a pass that will let him tail Eric off campus without consequence. Unfortunately for him, it gets eaten by a goat.
  • Inspector Javert: Truant Officer Langley Turk remembers Fillmore from his days as a delinquent, and refuses to believe that he's changed even as Fillmore is showing him his All-Day Pass and affiliation with the Safety Patrol, and is trying to convince him to help track down Eric. Even when Turk's superior informs him that the All-Day Pass is legitimate, he continues to antagonize Fillmore when he realizes that he doesn't have his pass anymore (due to it having been eaten by a goat earlier).
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Theldin is a smug and jealous kid who delights in seeing Eric in trouble and refuses to acknowledge his Hidden Depths. Nonetheless, he has a point about how trying to emulate Eric is having a negative effect on their mutual crush Alexandria and is making her act against her true character.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Alexandria poisoned Guidenstern after she assumed Eric hated feeding him. She's horrified to say the least when she learns about Eric's true colors.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Alexandria has this was she realizes she poisoned Guildenstern for nothing.
  • Poison Is Evil: Alexandria tries to make Guildenstern sick with a life threatening chemical. It doesn’t help that her father is a plant manager for a pest control company.
  • Pokémon Speak: One of Eric's friends only ever says "Holla", throughout the episode. Ingrid even cuts him off before he says it again.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Eric dresses like this in a poorly executed disguise.
  • Team Pet: Guildenstern, an albino tarantula, is this for the science department.
  • Totally Radical: Alexandria tries to sound thuggish in speech, presumably to try and impress Eric, but it doesn’t work.
