Fillmore A Wurm In Our Midst

Go To

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Later in the episode, after Ingrid points out Clementina couldn't possibly be the culprit, she points out to Fillmore he's a criminal like he was, and asks why he's not being given a second chance like Fillmore was given.
  • Cigar Chomper: Parodied with Clementina, who treats his "Extra-Salty Pretzel Rods" like fine cigars. At one point in the episode, he's shown holding one of them in his mouth like a cigar.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: While investigating Clementina, the Safety Patrol discovers he's making knockoff school club t-shirts to sell for a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme. At the end of the episode, Fillmore offers to pay him to make some shirts for the Safety Patrol's softball team.
  • Entitled Bastard: The book club (or at least Noah) stole the library books because they felt that, as the school's book club, they should have first dibs on all of the most in-demand titles.
  • Frame-Up: The book club tries to frame Clementina as the library book thief, even planting the books in his sister's treehouse. Possibly knowing that he would decide to take credit if it meant being remembered for it.
  • The Ghost: Clemtina's sister is mentioned several times but never seen.
  • Girls Love Chocolate: Ingrid bribes Tehama with a chocolate bar in exchange for a brief fingerprinting lesson.
  • Ironic Name: Noah Hawthorne may be a Shout-Out to Nathaniel Hawthorne, an American novelist known for incorporating themes of morality in his works. Noah instigated the library book thefts for selfish reasons, implying skewed morals.
  • I Was Just Passing Through: Clementina is the one to stop Noah's escape by dropping a handheld videogame in his path to trip him up. When Filmore returns the game, Clementina plays it off as a simple accident. Filmore doesn't bother to press on the matter.
  • Last-Name Basis: Few refer to Clementina by his first name, Tony.
  • Primal Fear: Ingrid quickly figures out that Clementina is scared of heights. It's severe enough that even a drop less than two feet from the back of a bus is enough to get him shivering.
  • Revisiting the Cold Case: While chasing Clementina, Ingrid finds a soda rocket lodged into the cafeteria's roof, which she finds might have been related to a massive custard spill that was dismissed as an accident. It turns out that the rocket was Filmore's, who fired it in order to get back at the home ec. teacher for calling him a lost cause in the middle of class, but the custard platform was already collapsing when the rocket launched. The custard spill really was an accident, but Filmore acknowledges that he really did try to bring it down.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Ingrid manages to save a student's balsa Taj Mahal sculpture when Clementina drops it while escaping the bus. It still ends up destroyed later on when Fillmore runs into the same student carrying the balsa Mahal while chasing Noah.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Clementina has a fondness for salted pretzel rods.
  • Unishment: Subverted. Noah believes that being in detention will give him plenty of time to catch up on his reading. Fillmore informs him that students in detention are only allowed to read if it's for school assignments.
  • Varying Competency Alibi: Ingrid points out that Clementia couldn't be the culprit for two reasons: He wouldn't put the books in the treehouse due to his fear of heights and he flunked computer science twice so there's no way he could've created the fake accounts.
  • Wham Shot: Ingrid is lifting fingerprints from a soda rocket she believes caused a massive custard spill, having learned how to do so from Tehama, who demonstrated by lifting one of Filmore's fingerprints from his coffee mug. When she finally gets a clean fingerprint, it's an exact match for Filmore's.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Ingrid calls out Fillmore out for trying to insist Clementina is the culprit, saying he's not giving him the benefit of doubt like he was given before.
