Recap / Fantastic Four Worlds Greatest Heroes Revenge Of The Skrulls

Go To

It's been a while since the Skrulls stole the Four's DNA, but they have far from forgotten. In the middle of the "Be a Fantastic Fifth For a Day" contest, they unveil their finest warrior—a super-Skrull with all the Four's powers. Can the team and their "Fantastic Fifth", a geek named Rupert, save the day? And might Ronan the Accuser have anything to do with this?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: The super-Skrull has the combined powers of the Fantastic Four, thanks to the DNA the Skrulls stole from them the last time.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Rupert. He starts out as just a very passionate fan of the Four's, but during the episode, he briefly gets a chance to act as a hero in his own right.
  • Big "NO!": Reed, Johnny and Ben yell, "No!" together when Susan suggests that Rupert should get an extra day with them to make up for the Skrull invasion...
  • Big "YES!": Rupert yells, "Yes!" in excitement at getting an extra day with the Four.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: a heroic example. Ronan was deposed as Accuser after the incident with Johnny, and he has spent quite some effort trying to get revenge on him. Johnny, by contrast, claims not to remember who he is at all.
Johnny: Dude, do you know how many blue people we meet?
  • Enemy Mine: Ronan and the super-Skrull partnered in his creation; the Skrull got the benefit of better science; Ronan got someone who would help him capture Johnny. The Skrulls weren't appreciative when they found out that their commander had been partnering with one of their enemies.
  • Leave Him to Me!: Ronan insists that whatever happens to the rest of the Four, Johnny is his.
  • Meaningful Echo: When the Skrulls first turn up to threaten the Fantastic Four, Rupert says, "It's Fantastic Five today." He thinks it's only roleplaying and breaks down upon discovering it's real. Then at the end, after defeating the team, the Super-Skrull gloats, "So ends the Fantastic Four." Grabbing Ronan's staff, Rupert retorts, "It's Fantastic Five today, Super-Skrull!"
  • "Meet the Celebrity" Contest: The episode features the Four holding a "Be a Fantastic Fifth for a Day" contest, and ending up with Rupert, a Motor Mouthed fanboy who irritates even Reed. He does end up saving them from an attack by Super Skrull (using Ronan's staff), but the other three are still not happy when Susan says they should give him a do-over since his day with them got disrupted by a supervillain attack.
  • Revenge: Ronan's motive.
  • Sequel Episode: To "My Neighbor Was a Skrull" and "Trial By Fire." It tells why the Skrulls wanted the Four's DNA and what happened to Ronan the Accuser after the Kree's encounter with the Four.
  • Villain Team-Up: Rupert gets excited about the Skrulls and the Kree working together, calling it "a super-villain team-up".
