Recap / Family Guy S 13 E 3 Baking Bad

Go To

Airdate: October 19, 2014

After Lois organizes a blood drive to help relief efforts after an earthquake strikes Haiti, she and Peter decide to go into business together by opening up a cookie bakery after Peter tries some of the cookies Lois made for the blood drive. However, things get messy when Peter uses strippers with cookie-themed names to get more customers. Meanwhile, to help Stewie sleep at night, Brian gives him some alcohol-based cough syrup, which (similar to what happened in "Stewie B. Goode"note  and a DVD-exclusive scene in "Road to Rupert") Stewie gets addicted to.

"Baking Bad" contains examples of:

  • Afraid of Needles: Subverted. Peter's initially very reluctant to give blood, but when he does finally do so, he doesn't even feel the needle go into him when the nurse takes his blood.
  • All Jews Are Cheapskates: Mort Goldman was one of the people at Lois's blood drive, but when he's informed that he's not being paid for it, he somehow manages to suck all the blood back into his body (much to the shock of the nurse).
  • Artistic License – Medicine: While there is alcohol in cough syrup and while it is possible to become addicted to it, there's not nearly enough alcohol to actually get you drunk. Then again, Stewie is a baby, explaining a low tolerance for it, and Brian outright states it's not really for kids save beyond a small drop.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Butter.
  • Big Eater: After Lois informs Peter that anyone who donates blood gets a free cookie from a batch that she made from one of her grandmother's recipes, he said he had already eaten two wedding cakes, but decides to try one of Lois's cookies. The same could also be said for the mosquito that kept trying to sneak into Lois's blood drive.
  • Chubby Chaser: One of the strippers that Peter hires is an overweight blonde who goes by "Butter," and Peter says that "Some guys like Butter," after Cleveland says hello to her—although in Cleveland's case, it could be non-romantic, considering that Cleveland's Happily Married to his second wife, Donna.
  • Edible Theme Naming: The six strippers that Peter hires (including Butter) to help work at the cookie bakery.
    • Cookie — A blonde with short hair (wears a green bikini).
    • Sugar — Looks like Butter but with a much thinner build (both wear pinkish-purple bikinis).
    • Spice — A redhead with long hair and freckles (her bikini's a darker shade than Cookie and Butter's bikinis).
    • Cinnamon — A Spicy Latina with long dark-brown hair (wears a red bikini).
    • Brown Sugar — A black woman with long, curly black hair (wears a bluish-purple bikini).
    • Butter — An overweight blonde (wears a pink bikini).
  • Grandma's Recipe: What kicks off the plot is Lois finding her Grandmother's cookie recipe, which are so good it leads to her and Peter starting up their own cookie shop.
  • The Man in the Mirror Talks Back: An interesting variation where Peter's reflection turns out to be an actual person who comes out of the mirror while the original Peter goes into the mirror to avoid giving blood.
  • Never a Self-Made Woman: The shop is called "Peter's Wife's Cookies". Lois, ironically, loves it.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Because Brian gave Stewie some cough syrup as a means to help him sleep, Stewie gets addicted to cough syrup.
  • Oh, Crap!: Brian has this reaction when he remembers that he organized a masturbation intervention for Chris and his friends and he had them all sitting in a circle.
  • Sex Sells: The advice Quagmire gives to Peter to help drum up business for his and Lois's cookie bakery—although Peter ends up taking it to the extreme when he turns the place into a full-on strip club that merely distributes cookies.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Stewie on the cough syrup: "So this is the stuff Lil Wayne almost keeps dying from!".
    • An inebriated Stewie in a bathtub with a top hat on is a reference to Arthur (1981)
  • Smart Ball: To get out of donating blood, Peter managed to trick his own reflection into coming out of the mirror so he could take the reflection's place.
