Recap / Family Guy S 17 E 2 Dead Dog Walking

Go To

In this Sequel Episode to "Married... with Cancer", Brian decides to settle in to his Awful Wedded Life by getting fat, which prompts his wife, Jess, to have him euthanized. Meanwhile, Chris and Stewie take up vaping much to the dismay of Lois.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Peter rushes to the pound to save Brian from being euthanized just in time, though not before looking up the word "euthanize" in the library. Or before writing "this is you" next to the word "dick" in every dictionary in the library.
  • Blowing Smoke Rings: Chris and Stewie do this while vaping. When Stewie does it, he tries to throw a football through the ring (and fails), and when Chris does it, he ends up summoning Sadako Yamamura.
  • Body Horror: Brian's dislocated hip shoots up against his fur, though not enough to pierce his skin.
  • Call-Back: Coupled with Leaning on the Fourth Wall, when Brian warns the veterinarian about to euthanize him that the internet will freak out if he dies.
  • Disco Dan: Chris has a pager because a cell phone can track him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Peter is the one who informs Brian he doesn't have to worry about his figure now that he's married, he expresses concern that Brian is overdoing it.
  • Fat and Proud: Deconstruction. Brian appreciates being an overweight husband until reality kicks in.
  • Fat Slob: What Brian becomes after no longer giving a shit. During one sequence, he is seen stuffing his face at a restaurant and then violently vomits all over Jess while cleaning up the mess he made on the floor.
  • Groin Attack: While fighting over a vape, Stewie throws a toy truck at Chris' crotch.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Sadako Yamamura from The Ring is openly terrified of Quagmire.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Lois objects to Chris and Stewie vaping, only to have Chris catch her later on smoking cigarettes. Chris calls her out on her hypocrisy, only to have Lois point out that Chris looks like "a douchebag" vaping. Also, before she scolds Chris for being responsible for Stewie's vaping, she openly steals money from Stewie's piggybank to buy "scratchers".
    • Jess also had no problem gaining tons of weight after getting married and eating like a pig with no manners, but she objects to Brian doing the same.
    • Brian is angered that Jess tried to get him euthanized, but as Jess points out, he let her choke to death in the previous episode.
  • I Wished You Were Dead: Jess dies in the middle of the final break; Brian has a moment of solace before scattering her ashes in the family's bushes.
  • Killed Offscreen: Jess dies in the middle of a commercial break.
  • Last Disrespects: Jess dies offscreen and is cremated; the last scene of the episode is Brian unceremoniously dumping her ashes in a bush outside the house.
  • Popping Buttons: Subverted. Brian wears a button-down shirt and a belt which stay in place when he breathes out his weight.
  • Primal Stance: While pursuing Sadako, Quagmire scuttles along the ground on all fours like a crab.
    Quagmire: Giggity giggity crabbity giggity!
  • Properly Paranoid: Chris carries a pager with him instead of a phone because he doesn't want to be tracked by the government. Stewie insists that's ridiculous, but a Cutaway Gag soon proves that Chris was being tracked by the government.
  • Reset Button: Brian returns to his normal weight at the end of the episode, and Jess conveniently dies during the final break so Brian can be single again.
  • Riddle for the Ages: What did Chris do (if anything at all) that caused the government to start tracking him?
  • Shout-Out:
  • Weight Woe: Brian decides to let himself go now that he's married, but he takes it too far and ends up dislocating his hip because he's so obese.
