Recap / Family Guy S 15 E 1 The Boys In The Band

Go To

Sick of how pandering children's music is, Stewie and Brian decide to create their own singer-songwriter duo, where the children's songs are more realistic, but the return of Stewie's acting partner, Olivia, may complicate things. Meanwhile, Chris gets a job organizing Quagmire's busy sex life.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Band Episode: This episode centers around Stewie and Brian starting a band called "Red Shirt Blue Shirt", so they can write children's music that's actually accurate to how a child sees the world.
  • The Bus Came Back: Olivia, in lieu of her apparent death in "Chick Cancer", when Stewie set fire to his backyard playhouse (with her and the Alan Alda-sounding boy, Gregory, in it).
  • The Cameo: Vinny (who disappeared at the end of "Christmas Guy" after Stewie made it so that way Brian doesn't get run over and that everything that happened after "Life of Brian" never happened) reappears at the end of the episode as Olivia's new partner.
  • Expy: The Turtlenecks share similarities with The Wiggles, a four-person Australian children's music band also known for their children's show of the same name. In addition to musical genre and membership consist, both groups share tunics of matching colors. Even their song "Do You Kazoo?" is likely an obvious reference to and stark reminder of You on Kazoo!, which is a well-known, now-infamous, and ever-popular internet meme.
  • I Warned You: Chris rings Quagmire's doorbell even after being told not to, and his cat runs out the door.
  • Suck E. Cheese's: Stewie and Olivia go on a date at a restaurant called "Cheesy Charlie's", which serves pizza, has soda in "badly scratched pitchers", and has a band of stiffly moving animatronics (with one of them in need of repair) as entertainment.
