Recap / F Is For Family S 3 E 5 Battle Of The Sexes

Go To

Sue hosts another depressing focus group for her invention. Franks tries to keep Vic and Chet from being friends. Kevin hangs out with his delinquent friends from summer school Bill and Bridget sneak out. Maureen, Phillip and Anthony watch a sports match between a man and a woman. In the cold opening, the alderman for Rosie's ward is forced to resign after a sex scandal, with his equally corrupt son announcing his intent to run for the seat, and Georgia tells Rosie to run for alderman if he feels so strongly that the city government is mismanaging their neighborhood.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Frank recalls the season 1 finale where Vic hosted a party that had a midget have intercourse with a woman on his car.
  • Hurricane of Excuses: When Georgia tells Rosie to run for the vacant alderman's seat instead of complaining about the Morewills not doing anything for the neighborhood, he comes up with excuses both to her and to himself not to do it, but it's clear that his excuses are getting weaker and he is seriously thinking about it. It's only after Frank absentmindedly says that the idea is "crazy" that Rosie realizes that he could do it.
  • Mood Whiplash: The ending where after everyone has a good time watching the titular sporting event, when Sue goes to return some Tupperware to the Stevensons, she discovers that Chet abuses his wife.
  • Rule of Three: At the beginning, Frank keeps walking in on people while naked since he threw his clothes in the washing machine in the laundry due to being soaked in blood from a live goose being cut to pieces at the airport. He first walks in on Sue's support group, the kids in Maureen's room, and finally Nana Bonfiglio in the upstairs bathroom in his room.
  • Trivial Title: The "Battle of the Sexes" plot where Maureen, Philip and Anthony watch the sport game only takes up a quarter of the episode.
