What could be worse than one Grundel? Two of them.

The Grundel appears to be hunting after children again, but when Egon reveals that the original Ghostbusters captured the Grundel years ago, Kylie finds out that the new Grundel is actually connected to Jack, her long-lost childhood friend.

The page contains the following tropes:

  • Art Evolution: While Grundel has obviously been redesigned for the Extreme Ghostbusters design aesthetic, the broad strokes of his original Real Ghostbusters character model at least remain intact.
  • Ascended Fridge Horror: The Grundel was active for so long that it was likely he might've had other victims the Ghostbusters weren't able to find or save if they were even aware of them. This episode shows he had at least one child whom he kept trapped to turn into another Grundel.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Roland finds out what the Grundel did to Casey and he is NOT HAPPY!
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Casey, Roland's little brother is this. It's because of his bratty nature that the Grundel uses him to be his Unwitting Pawn in freeing him and later turn him into a Grundel.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Subverted. The Grundel amuses himself by initially pretending to have no idea who Kylie is.
The Grundel: This is personal, isn't it? Why are you so interested in me, hmm?
    Kyle: I... I don't know.
    The Grundel: I do... Kylie.
  • Consulting a Convicted Killer: Kylie thinks the Monster of the Week is a Grundel but her teammates won't believe her because the only existing Grundel has already been captured. To confirm her suspicions, Kylie interrogates the original Grundel, who confirms the existence of another one but demands to be freed if she wants his help. She refuses.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The one victim of the Grundel the original Ghostbusters were never aware of just happened to be a close friend of one of the new Ghostbusters.
  • Hannibal Lecture: Kylie and Roland interrogates the Grundel for info about his alleged partner only for the latter to turn it around and attempts to break Kylie.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Egon says the Grundel was busted ten years ago. This episode aired in 1997; the original Grundel episode aired in 1987.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Zigzagged with Kylie. While Kylie's actions led to the Grundel getting loose, if it hadn't happened, Jack would never have been freed from the Grundel's curse upon his recapture. Egon even says this at the end of the episode when Kylie attempts to resign from the team.
    • Played with regarding the original team. They assumed when they captured the Grundel all those years ago that all the children it tried to kidnap were returned to normal. In their defense, there was no indication the Grundel had other victims like Jack out there.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Grundel stuck Jack in a cocoon to properly gestate. However, he got busted by Egon and the others not too long afterwards, so Jack was just left there for a decade until a lightning strike breached the cocoon.
  • Sequel Episode: To "The Grundel" from The Real Ghostbusters.
  • Shout-Out: Garrett quotes The Fly (1986) in relation to Casey roaming around the Firehouse.
  • Tranquil Fury: Egon's reaction after the original Grundel gets loose from the Containment Unit. He's rightfully furious at Kylie and how her actions have unleashed one of the most dangerous ghosts the original team ever busted. But Egon also knows there will be a time and place for that anger later; re-capturing the Grundel's the priority right now.
  • Turn in Your Badge: Kylie is prepared to do this at the end of episode out of remorse and guilt for betraying Egon and nearly causing a disaster. However, Egon forgives her both because she's accepted responsibility and because her actions unwittingly helped them save Jack from the Grundel's curse.
  • Trauma Button: Seeing Jack as a Grundel causes Kylie to have flashbacks to her encounter with the original and to think about her friend's disappearance.
  • Wham Episode: It turns out that Jack, Kylie's childhood friend, was one of the Grundel's first victims.
  • Xanatos Gambit: While being interrogated, the Grundel notices Casey. He stalls Kylie and Roland by bringing up the former's issues with him while manipulating the kid to free him.
