Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 5 E 6 I Am Curious Ed

Go To

Jimmy's pet goldfish gives birth to baby goldfish, getting both Jimmy and Sarah curious as to where babies come from. After failing to get an answer from the culdesac kids, they eventually find themselves (reluctantly) turning to the Eds for an explanation. Unfortunately, they all have their own ideas of where they come from.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: If you want to know something serious, like where babies come from, ask a trusted adult about it. Unless they lie to you about the stork, which would turn it into a Broken Aesop.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Sarah and Jimmy while the Eds are demoted to supporting characters.
  • Foreshadowing: The fact that Eddy seems to genuinely believe his brother's horror story about where babies come from and how disturbing it clearly is to him, is another hint that Eddy's older brother isn't nearly as cool as Eddy claims he is.
  • The Talk: The main premise of this episode is Jimmy and Sarah trying to figure out where babies come from, resulting in the various kids trying to give an explanation.
    • Nazz just descends into incoherent giggling when the topic is brought up.
    • Kevin uncomfortably tries to get around it by claiming that they grow from trees like fruit.
    • Jonny vaguely demonstrates that they come from eggs laid by a bird.
    • Subverted with Rolf as he refuses to tell them because they're too young to know.
    • Ed still believes in the Delivery Stork.
    • Eddy relays what his brother told him; an In-Universe Nightmare Fuel story of where babies come from.
    • Double D seems to actually know where babies come from and how they are made; however, his scientifically accurate slide show attempt to teach the kids the birds and the bees just ends up grossing out Jimmy and Sarah.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Eddy and Double D begin fighting, Sarah and Jimmy decide to go play in the mud.
  • Visual Pun: Ed and Double D dress up like a stork and bee respectively, while teaching Sarah and Jimmy about the birds and the bees.
