At the New York ID portal station, one of the technicians is attacked and killed by strange glowing insect-like creatures. His coworker goes to Liam for help in investigating it. Meanwhile, blackouts begin happening all over the world, possibly related to an incompatibility between human and Taelon technology. Liam finds one of the creatures and traps it. He learns that they feed off any form of energy and are the cause of the blackouts. Augur suggests that the new unexplored pathways recently opened by the ID portal stations might have accidentally brought the creatures to our dimension. The creatures make their way onto the Mothership and begin to attack Taelons, feeding off their energy. Sandoval suggests that they all go into low-energy stasis in order to hide from the creatures, leaving him in charge of the ship. He takes the opportunity to make a copy of Zo'or's handprint. Lily suspects that Sandoval has a personal agenda. Liam and Augur come up with a plan to lure the creatures to Liam's shuttle by rigging it with a powerful energy source and opening an ID portal, thus allowing the creatures to return to their own dimension. The plan works. When Lily confronts Sandoval about his agenda, he threatens her to stay loyal to him alone. He then uses the handprint to look up the status of his CVI.
- Vampiric Draining: The creatures feed on any form of energy. When they get enough, they reproduce. They only attack humans when threatened, but they will attack and feed on Taelons because they're Energy Beings. When Companion soldiers try to shoot the creatures, they just feed on the Skrill blasts and keep reproducing.
