Recap / Earth Final Conflict S 2 E 2 Atavus

Go To

Zo'or becomes the new leader of the Taelon Synod, sending out search-and-destroy squads after the Resistance and placing a bounty on the head of Jonathan Doors. Curious about the Taelon Commonality, Augur taps into it, experiencing the greatest high imaginable, while accidentally disconnecting Da'an from it. Da'an devolves in a savage creature, which Zo'or calls an Atavus. Zo'or orders the Atavus hunted down and killed. The creature starts feeding on people using its shaqarava, while making a beeline for Augur's warehouse. Sandoval and Lili arrive and fight off the creature, but Sandoval is wounded. Beckett goes with him to the hospital. Lili and Liam have Augur recreate the signal at the Resistance base to lure the Atavus. Liam tries to save Da'an by using his own shaqarava and succeeds reconnecting him to the Commonality. Liam brings Da'an to the Resistance base.

  • Call-Back:
  • Digital Avatar: Augur's virtual avatar now looks like a genie. Lili isn't happy when she finds out.
  • Evolutionary Levels: When not connected to the Commonality, Taelons devolve into a savage creature known as an Atavus. The creature only has the most primitive instincts, like self-preservation and feeding. Zo'or considers the Atavus to be a disgusting reminder of their past.
  • Jurisdiction Friction: Beckett assault a reporter, destroying his camera. When a local Companion soldier points out that she can't just do that in the US, she counters that Companion Protectors have worldwide jurisdiction.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Da'an is horrified by what he did as an Atavus.

  • Our Vampires Are Different: Zo'or describes the Atavus as a creature faster and stronger than any human and capable of sucking out a living being's life force. He's able to do it from several feet away using the shaqarava.
  • The Talk: Augur starts trying to explain sex to Liam, then says he's going to have to figure it out for himself.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Augur had no idea that tapping into the Commonality would cause Da'an to turn into a murderous creature.
  • Wham Shot: Liam brings Da'an to the Resistance base, who then shakes Doors's hand.
