Recap / Due South S 4 E 13 Call Of The Wild Part 2

Go To

Fraser and Kowalski pursue an arms dealer to the Yukon, where they join forces with Buck Frobisher's detachment.

Tropes:

  • The Cavalry: Before they charge into the arms drop-off, Fraser sends Dief to get some Mountie reinforcements, sticking a written note into the dog's scarf. When it starts to go sour, the Mounties arrive by plane and parachute behind the arms dealers (with Dief also airdropping in), surrounding them.
  • A Crack in the Ice: In addition to Muldoon's sub breaching the ice during the arms drop-off, when Muldoon attempts to escape arrest via snowmobile, he ends up falling into a snowed-over mine shaft (dragging Fraser, who had just lassoed him, down it as well).
  • Finale Credits / Solemn Ending Theme: At the end of the episode and into the credits, instead of the series' regular theme, the music playing is "Northwest Passage" by Canadian musician Stan Rogers.
  • Go into the Light: After Muldoon is at last apprehended and his last case finally solved, the ghost of Robert Fraser is greeted by his wife/Benton's mother Caroline, and the two spirits walk into the light together.
  • Grand Finale: The final episode of the final season, in which Holloway Muldoon is finally apprehended.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: When Muldoon is cornered, Robert Fraser manifests himself and intends to shoot him dead. But Benton convinces him that it's not the just thing to do, and that it's better to lawfully arrest him...though Robert still gets a punch in for good measure.
  • Multi-Part Episode: This is the second part of the two-part Grand Finale.
  • Previously on…: The episode begins with a minute-long recap of the first part.
  • Sub Story: An arms drop-off that the Mounties try to intervene in becomes moderately more complicated when Muldoon breaks through the ice with a submarine, leading to a sequence where Fraser and Kowalski have to infiltrate it while Frobisher's detachment uses it for cover while defending from gunfire.
  • Tap on the Head: When Muldoon is cornered, and after Robert Fraser's convinced that he needs to be taken alive, the ghost knocks him unconscious with one punch...though he complains about his hand throbbing from it.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: After Muldoon is finally apprehended, Fraser narrates how everyone's lives went afterwards, ending with how he, Kowalski, and Dief set off on another adventure.
