After bailing out a teenage shooting suspect named Tyree, Fraser battles Ray to prove the young man's innocence.

  • Brick Joke: The episode starts with Fraser trying to get his uniform boots repaired at a cobbler's located in a notoriously bad neighborhood, but the shooting distracts him and Ray, and the boots end up stolen. At the end of the episode, Fraser finally gets his boots back from a friendly local.
  • Buffy Speak: While discussing the order of shots in the shooting case, Fraser and Ray refer to the suspected initial order as "Bang-Bang-Bing"note , and the actual order after further evidence as "Boom-Bang-Bing"note .
  • The Cameo: At the end of the episode, basketball star Isiah Thomas appears, and encourages Tyree to do the most with his life.
  • *Click* Hello: In the episode's climax, Lou is still willing to kill Fraser because his scheming has been uncovered, but Ray's snuck up behind him and puts a gun against his head.
  • Disappeared Dad: According to Tyree during his first attempt to kill Fraser, his father was shot to death when Tyree was just four.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: The first time Tyree tries to kill Fraser for knowing too much, outside his apartment in the night, Diefenbaker goes to get Ray for help. However, Fraser's able to talk Tyree down before they arrive, and Ray is upset that he followed the dog for no good reason.
  • Gangbangers: The main focus of the episode is a group of impoverished African-Americans that are acclimated to a life of violence in order to get by. However, while Lou and his main thugs fit the image to a tee, Tyree and Reggie's consciences prevent them from causing serious harm.
  • Gangland Drive-By: Attempted outside a courthouse after Ray asks Tyree if he's covering for anyone, but Fraser notices in time and uses a water hose from some nearby construction to make the driver swerve away.
  • He Knows Too Much: Lou tries to convince Tyree to kill Fraser for investigating the case.
  • Inner City School: Both Tyree and his best friend Reggie are on their local youth basketball team, managed by Lou Robbins, who's also the leader of the Gangbangers.
  • Killing in Self-Defense: It's revealed in the climax that the victim had shot first, aiming at Lou but missing, and Reggie shot back. The final scene notes that Reggie's criminal charges will be dropped since he was protecting himself from gang violence.
  • Malaproper: During the *Click* Hello moment, Fraser says to Lou that "Detective Vecchio will blow your brains off" if he tries shooting him, and Ray corrects that he means "out".
  • Morality Pet: Despite Tyree telling Lou that he's willing to kill Fraser for figuring out the case, he's unable to do so when Reggie confesses and begs him not to shoot.
  • Saying Too Much: While interviewing Reggie, Fraser claims that Tyree's in trouble and won't get off on a Killing in Self-Defense charge because the victim didn't have a gun. When Reggie corrects him, Fraser points out the only way he'd know with certainty is if he was also at the scene of the crime.
  • Taking the Heat: Reggie was the actual perpetrator of the shooting, but Lou has Tyree try to take the heat because Reggie's the better basketball player and a major game is that week.
