What the girls find in the Other Bin is truly terrifying.

Lena’s loyalties are tested when Magica forces her to lead Webby on a raid to a facility full of Scrooge’s most dangerous artifacts to find his #1 Dime.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: The Vesuvian Diamond Dagger. It's able to penetrate through the quadraimond filament used to hold Scrooge's Number One Dime, and, in Lena's dream, break through the door leading to the Dime.
  • Abusive Parents: Magica, to an even greater and disturbing extent this time.
    • First, blaming and threatening Lena for her failures - even though, as listed under With Catlike Tread, Magica is responsible for some of the failed attempts to get the #1 Dime.
    • Once again, controlling Lena's body and taking over both her body and mind at the end.
    • Just a simple hug causes Lena to start crying.
    • Most disturbingly, Lena's worst nightmare when trapped in the Dream-Catcher turns out to be Magica winning and killing Webby in the process, all simply as "thanks" to her niece for helping her out.
  • All Just a Dream: Several minutes of the episode; Magica never took the dime, it was just an evil dreamcatcher instead. What Lena gets is far, far worse than what we saw.
  • Androcles' Lion: Huey befriends a Bigfoot after pulling a thorn in his foot. However, it was all a scam so the Bigfoot could live in Scrooge's mansion.
  • And Your Little Dog, Too!: To keep Louie quiet about his ruse, Gavin scratches up a portrait of his family, implying Gavin won't spare them either if his trick is revealed.
  • As You Know: Magica recaps her plot and the steps Lena used to enact it at the start of the episode.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: When Louie discovers "Tenderfeet" (Gavin) is scamming Huey and Dewey, he decides to get rid of him by tricking them again, this time by making them think the Bigfoot will die if kept indoors.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Huey finds a Bigfoot in the woods he calls Tenderfeet and hides it inside the mansion. Turns out, however, that the Bigfoot, whose real name is Gavin, is scamming him to live in the mansion.
  • Big "NO!": Lena in her nightmare when her amulet kills puppet Webby.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Ranges from this to Downer Ending. Magica fails to get Scrooge's dime, but now has full control over her niece. Meanwhile, Louie is unable to convince his brothers of Gavin's true nature, but still manages to outsmart him and kick him out of the mansion by the end.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Lena briefly develops solid, pitch black eyes when Magica possesses her body.
  • Breaking Speech: A Magica-controlled Webby gives this to Lena in the latter's nightmare.
Webby: You're a monster! Just. Like. Your. Aunt!
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": Webby refers to the unicorn as a "sword horse" just like she did in "From the Confidential Casefiles of Agent 22!".
  • Call-Back:
    • Scrooge's grudge with Santa Claus. Scrooge's mumbling in his sleep indicates it may have something to do with Santa stealing milk and cookies from him.
    • Webby mentions Duckworth's cleaning schedule when tracking down the Other Bin.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Webby talking about the dreamcatcher becomes important later in the episode, as Scrooge encountered it in January 8, 1977, which gets confused for 1877, the year Scrooge obtained his dime.
  • Clapper Gag: Webby turns off the lights in her room by clapping, so she can start her slideshow.
  • Cliffhanger: Magica, upon Lena refusing to listen to her anymore, takes full possession of Lena's body all together. Webby is going to be in for a quite a shocker.
  • Crocodile Tears: Gavin uses these a lot when conning Huey and Dewey. Louie turns it around on him at the end when he pretends to be heartbroken that they have to send "Tenderfeet" back to the majestic woods where he belongs.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Louie manages to slap Gavin around a bit at the end by pretending he's driving him away "for his own good."
  • Darker and Edgier: The most disturbing episode so far. The main plot with Webby, Lena and Magica slowly becomes more like a horror-story over the course of the plot. Not to mention the ending...
    • Even the subplot with Tenderfeet/Gavin is darker than usual, with his mean-spirited scam against the boys and his threat to kill/maim them if Louie says anything. The fact that he suffers little punishment for it doesn't help.
  • Demonic Possession: Magica has decided to possess Lena to go after Scrooge herself.
  • Downer Ending: Lena's final defiant stand in refusing to hurt Scrooge's family anymore only results in her aunt taking full control of her, both in body and mind.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: A villainous example. Just as Lena is about to tell Scrooge that her aunt is Magica, Magica physically takes total control of Lena and prevents her from alerting the others. She even says she didn't know she could do that, but guesses it has to do with the nearing eclipse.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Scrooge realizes something's amiss when he sees the unbreakable quadraimond filament he uses to keep his Number One Dime around his neck suddenly has a fray in it and decides to hunt down whatever did it. When he finds out about the Bigfoot the boys have been hiding, he thinks that's what it was and stops searching, when it was really Lena trying to cut the filament with a magic dagger.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Louie might con his uncle out of money for a bogus charity and trick his brothers into doing his laundry, but even he seems revolted by Gavin's mean-spirited scam against his brothers, mooching off their goodwill and mocking them for being too naive to realize it behind their backs.
  • Familial Body Snatcher: The lunar eclipse makes Magica's connection to Lena strong enough take her over entirely.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: Scrooge hunts for the intruder carrying around a crossbow, rather than a shotgun he's occasionally used in the comics.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Repeated attention is drawn to the concept of Magica treating Lena like a puppet. At the end Lena is indeed fully under Magica's control.
    • "Tenderfeet" often wanders off to take things that aren't his, especially raid the fridge. When Huey argues that he doesn't know any better, Louie points out that he's grilling a sandwich on a panini press! This is an early indicator that "Tenderfeet" is smarter than he pretends and is taking advantage of their hospitality.
    • In Lena's nightmare sequence, one of Dream!Webby's accusing remarks is "I know what you really are… a MONSTER…". Since this is followed with "just like your aunt!!", you'd be forgiven for thinking that the use of the words "what you really are" and "monster" were metaphorical. But in light of the later revelations about Lena's true nature…
  • Furry Reminder: Webby refers to the year when Scrooge was "hatched" rather than when he was born.
  • Gentle Giant: Tenderfeet the Bigfoot acts like this towards the triplets. He gets a lot less gentle towards Louie when he finds out about his scam.
  • Hate Sink: It's bad enough that Magica blames Lena for her failures, but forcefully taking control of her body and mind is a serious low blow.
    • Gavin/Tenderfeet does nothing to earn sympathy either, as he not only actively turns Huey and Dewey against Louie, but also threatens to bring harm to Louie and/or his family to keep mooching off of them after Louie discovers his ruse.
  • Hope Spot: Having seen how kind Scrooge can be, and how capable he is at handling magical threats, Lena resolves to tell him the truth about herself. She almost succeeds, but before she can get out Magica's name, her aunt takes full control of her body and even her voice and changes the rest of her sentence accordingly.
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed - Gavin maybe gets off a little easy for having outright threatened to maim/kill the boys if Louie told his secret, but he does get smacked around a bit by Louie and pretty humiliated, not to mention losing out on all the mansion's luxuries he was enjoying.
  • Last Place You Look: Scrooge's #1 dime was stored in room 0001. He even says that people rarely think to look in the first room.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Louie's reaction when Gavin silently gloats that he won.
Louie: Oh, bigfoot, you just poked a bear.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Magica usually refers to Webby as "the pink one", but during the nightmare, she calls Webby a bunch of W-names, none of which are right. She admits that she doesn't even care that she's getting the name wrong.
  • Morton's Fork: Louie secretly shaves Gavin so he looks like he has bald spots in his sleep, then points it out to Huey and Dewey so they think he’s sick from staying in the mansion. As a result, Gavin either speaks up (exposing his scam and getting kicked out of the mansion) or he has to go along with it (which would still get Gavin kicked out of the mansion).
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The photo of Donald, Huey, Dewey, and Louie that Gavin scratches out as a thinly-veiled threat is posed in a similar way to the artwork used in the end credits of Quack Pack.
    • When Webby is turned into a doll by Magica, it resembles her design in the original series, and, by extension, her Quacky Patch Doll from said original series.
    • Scrooge's "Worry Room" featured in both the comics and cartoon makes an appearance, though it is not used or referenced by the characters. The dime is kept in the middle of the circle path worn into the floor.
    • One of the paintings near the entrance of the Other Bin is of Scrooge fighting a Minotaur, referencing the Carl Barks painting "Cave of the Minotaur".
    • Webby has her own "exhaustively researched" version of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.
  • Never My Fault: Despite Magica's Large Ham tendencies foiling Lena's first attempt to get the dime in this episode, Lena is scolded by her aunt as if it was her fault.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Lampshaded. Upon possessing Lena, Magica is quick to state that she didn't even know she could do that. She theorizes that with the eclipse growing nearer she's growing stronger.
  • Noodle Incidents: Whatever led to Scrooge having a dragon and a unicorn (among many other things) trapped in his Other Bin.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Tenderfeet/Gavin is only pretending to be a dumb animal, when in actuality he can speak English and is just mooching off the triplets.
  • Out-Gambitted: When Louie finds out about Gavin's scam, the Bigfoot tells Louie that he either keeps his mouth shut and he'll keep on the Gentle Giant act, or if Louie speaks up he'll use violence against him. Louie outsmarts him by partially shaving Gavin's fur, telling his brothers the Bigfoot is getting sick and has to be returned to the wild. Gavin can choose between speaking up and revealing his con, or keeping up the act and getting kicked out of the mansion.
  • People Puppets: Magica turns Lena into one in the end, even taking on her voice. Interestingly, the main reason Magica didn't do this sooner seems to be that she didn't know she was powerful enough yet.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When he finds Lena and Webby in his Other Bin, Scrooge is very concerned that they could have gotten hurt and tells them to just ask next time.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Scrooge has a huge hidden space full of rooms to safely contain the most dangerous things he collects. Among them are a unicorn, a dragon, and a dream catcher that makes those who get too close to it experience their worst nightmare.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Gavin invokes this trope when threatening Louie to keep quiet about his con:
Gavin: So, you figured out the Bigfoot in your house is scamming you. Trouble is, (towers over Louie; cracks knuckles) the Bigfoot in your house is scamming you, and watch out, bro, he lifts. (flexes muscles)
  • Shoo the Dog: Louie does this to the Bigfoot when he's released into the woods, although he's actually getting even for all the trouble he put him through.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Gavin resembles the Bigfoot seen in A Goofy Movie.
    • Scrooge mutters "Clever girl" when he finds a freshly-prepared sandwich during his Bigfoot hunt.
    • The boys' room has a Darkwing Duck poster on the wall.
    • The whole "gentle Bigfoot gets adopted by a family" subplot references Harry and the Hendersons. More specifically, Louie pretending to be using tough love while exiling Gavin is from a scene of it genuinely and heartbreakingly being used the same way in that movie.
  • Shown Their Work: It may seem odd that Scrooge includes a unicorn among the "bad stuff" that has to be locked away, but in mythology, unicorns were indeed often depicted as extremely fierce and dangerous creatures. Sure enough, this unicorn attacks the girls on sight.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Webby tells Lena she wasn't trying to collect a sample of Scrooge's saliva. A flask then falls off her pocket.
  • Tears of Fear: To hammer home just how abusive Magica is, there is a closeup on Lena's face as she starts crying when Magica (who has just regained a physical form) uses the power of People Puppets to drag her back in... for a hug. Bonus points go to the fact that Lena was terrified of her aunt just touching her, and how this was all just a nightmare in Lena's mind. It tells a lot of how oppressive and cruel her aunt is to her.
  • This Means War!: When Louie finds out that Gavin the Bigfoot has been scamming his brothers and turning them against him, he does not take it well.
Louie: Oh, Bigfoot, you just poked a bear.
  • Toy Transmutation: Magica transforms Webby into a doll styled after the latter's 1987 cartoon design in order to "thank" Lena for freeing her and then controlling her to attack Lena before finally burning her to ashes all to torture Lena... However, it turns out to be simply a hallucination caused by a magic dreamcatcher.
  • Unicorn: Scrooge keeps one imprisoned in the Other Bin. It's surrounded by sparkles and butterflies, but is actually a very dangerous beast that attempts to impale Webby on its horn.
  • Unobtainium: Scrooge's #1 dime is attached around his neck on a cord with a quadraimond filament. Only something magical (like the Vesuvian diamond dagger, which could also count) could cut through it. It's not explained why she couldn't just slip it off around his neck.
  • Villain Episode: This episode has Lena as the main protagonist. The boys are only relegated to a B-Plot.
  • Voices Are Not Mental: When Magica takes over Lena's body, we hear both voices together briefly, then she speaks in Lena's voice entirely.
  • Wham Episode: Lena officially turns against Magica. Unfortunately for her, Magica's powers have grown to the point where she's able to fully take control of Lena's body. Webby's going to be in for a rude surprise.
  • With Catlike Tread: Magica keeps talking loudly to Lena while she's trying to cut the Dime off of Scrooge's neck. Lena even lampshades it.
Magica: I'm not yelling, I'm whispering harshly!
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: "Tenderfeet" does this with Louie a lot throughout the episode to gain Huey and Dewey's sympathy and turn them against him.
