Recap / Duck Tales S 1 E 25 Ducky Horror Picture Show

Go To

Scrooge finances a meeting house/convention center, which is then used by a group of horror movie-based monsters.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The monsters protest against monster movies for making people afraid of them, and they don't even get royalties.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Bigfoot is mentioned, and Quackymodo hopes she doesn't ask him to dance again because his foot still hurts after she stepped on them.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The nephews are a little disappointed when Scrooge assures them that monsters like in the movies can't possibly exist.
  • Clam Trap: The mail carrier briefly got his fingers stuck inside the Fish Person's mailbox, which is a clam that closed when mail is put in.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The monsters. And they're not happy with the monster movies portraying them negatively. Only to find out everyone loves them anyway.
  • False Reassurance: When Ping Pong arrived, Scrooge nervously asked the monsters if he was staying at the mansion. They assured him of course...he'd be staying on top of the tallest building in town. Unfortunately, Scrooge realizes that means his money bin.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampires: Not just the vampire but all the monsters are revealed to be rather friendly and fun-loving.
  • Gonna Need More X: When Ping Pong showed up, one of the triplets calls out to Mrs. Beakley that they were going to need more guest towels.
  • Instant Convertible: When the monsters arrive in their bus, Quackenstein shoved his head through the roof before using his monstrous strength to tear it completely off.
Quackula: How about that? A convertible!
  • I See Them, Too: After seeing that the monsters disappeared after partying in the convention center, Scrooge wondered if it was All Just a Dream. Duckworth then confirmed that he had seen the monsters too.
  • The Igor: Quackymodo.
  • King Kong Copy: One of the monsters attending the convention is a giant gorilla named Ping Pong.
  • "King Kong" Climb: When Ping Pong shows up, he climbs up on top of Scrooge's money bin and pounds his chest up there. The other monsters explain that, according to tradition, he climbs the tallest building at every convention.
  • Laughing Mad: Quackymodo.
  • Monster Mash: Among the monsters showing up to the convention, there's a vampire, a hunchback, a wolf-duck, a Frankenstein's Monster and his bride, a fish-man, a Blob Monster, a mummy and a giant gorilla named Ping Pong.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Everyone's reaction after finding out the monsters are the real thing. Fortunately, the monsters mean no harm.
    • Scrooge's reaction, due to the being in both financial and legal (especially financial) trouble as a result of the monsters' destruction.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Mr. Wolf, who is shown in both duck and wolf form.
  • Punny Name: Many of the monsters have a pun in their names. The vampire is called Drakeula, the hunchback is called Quackymodo, the Frankenstein's Monster is called Quackenstein, and the gigantic, paddle-ball-playing gorilla is called Ping Pong.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
  • Squick: In-Universe, Scrooge finds it nasty when the Blob slimes him and again when Quackymodo suggests he "blob for apples" (playing apple bobbing with the Blob serving as the tank).
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: The mummy looks identical to Ka-hoo-fu from "Sphinx for the Memories".
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Upon learning that Scrooge owned the theater that was showing monster movies, Mr. Wolf went into an Unstoppable Rage over "the misuse of monsters" and nearly subjected Scrooge to his wrath. Fortunately, he calmed down when a child who was a fan of Wolf Man movies asked for an autograph.
  • Unstoppable Mailman: The mail carrier who delivers the letters to the monsters.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: Drakeula does not suck blood, but eats apples instead.
  • Your Size May Vary: The episode featured a big ape named Ping Pong. When he first comes in right before the second commercial break, he's about as tall as Scrooge's Money Bin. But right after the ad break, he suddenly gets smaller than the Bin so that he can climb it and relax on the roof.
