Recap / Duck Tales My Mother The Psychic

Go To

Fenton's mother suffers a bad shock when trying to get better television reception and gains the ability to predict the future. Her new-found abilities are soon exploited by Scrooge, much to Fenton's chagrin.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode focuses on M'Ma Crackshell.
  • An Aesop: Treat those you love well and give them your time when they ask because if you push them away long enough, they may decide being around you is too painful and leave you alone and lonely.
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: As Fenton frets about his mother going missing, Scrooge gets a phone call and learns that Glomgold has been doing surprisingly well in the stock market.
Fenton: How can you think about money matters when poor M'Ma could be in danger?
Scrooge: Fenton, Glomgold's profits went up the day your mother disappeared.
Fenton: So, he got lucky the day my luck ran out. Big deal.
Scrooge: He's got your mother, you idiot!
  • Badass in Distress: Even after getting caught in Glomgold's magnet, Gizmoduck is able to maneuver it like a Frisbee to continue chasing after him and rescue M'Ma.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After Gizmoduck is captured, M'Ma has a vision of him being launched and then sees something so horrible that she faints. He narrowly escapes his predicament, but he accidentally crashes into the city's broadcasting tower and knocks out all the TV stations. Gizmoduck realizes that's the horrible thing that caused M'Ma to faint.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas/Even Evil Has Standards: Burger Beagle is disgusted by the idea that Fenton would stop visiting his mother.
  • Momma's Boy: Fenton takes it hard when his mother no longer has time for him now that she's working for Scrooge and has a widescreen TV. When told she's being held by Glomgold, he races into action.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: M'Ma after Fenton storms out.
  • Oh, Crap!: M'Ma gets one when she realises she's just told Glomgold Gizmoduck is about to crash through the wall and rescue her...and thus given the villainous duck time to prepare to neutralize him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Upon being told Gizmoduck is on the way, the Beagle Boys make a run for it and don't come back until he's been dealt with by Glomgold's trap.
  • Shout-Out: The title is probably a reference to My Mother the Car.
  • Status Quo Is God: M'Ma is back to normal at the end of the episode, though Scrooge is upset because he no longer has future investment knowledge.
