Recap / Dragons: Riders of Berk S7E11 "Snuffnut"

Go To

With the Changewing migration causing chaos at the Edge, Throk arrives unexpectedly with a startling revelation...

Tropes:

  • Crying Wolf: Tuffnut has been spending the whole day trying to spook people by camouflaging himself and then jumping out at them, pretending to be a changewing. Unfortunately for Snotlout, he suspects this to be the case when it is an actual changewing.
  • Faking the Dead: Tuffnut fakes his own death because he thinks that he is forcing Ruffnut away from a lifetime of love and happiness with Throk. Hiccup, Astrid and Toothless see through the ruse immediately.
  • Hidden Depths: When Hiccup and Astrid ask Tuffnut if he ever wanted to find love, settle down and start a family, Tuffnut gives an "of course" without hesitation.
  • Innocent Bigot: When Throk arrives to Dragon's Edge to ask for Ruffnut's hand in marriage he wants to "ask" her by taking her over his shoulder and taking her to his island where she will be his wife whether she wants to or not. This gets a rather humorous reaction from Astrid, who becomes so enraged by his sexist traditions that Hiccup has to keep her from coming at him with an axe. However, as while the tradition itself is sexist (with Throk not really noticing) he is fully willing to win Ruffnut over willingly using less regressive, more "modern" methods (poem reading, flower-giving and simply asking her), leading away from the idea of him being an active misogynist.
  • See the Invisible: Ruffnut paints Tuffnut's portrait onto the changewing that allegedly ate him with the intent of "adopting" it as a replacement Tuffnut. Because of this, the paint is still visible when it camouflages. This causes a few complications when it tries rejoining its pack.
