"So, you're his brother, huh? Wow, that must mean you'll be involved in a lot of future events, right?"
Krillin, to Raditz, who promptly bitch-slaps him into Kame House to inaugurate the Krillin Owned Count

Original Airdate: June 1, 2008

A mysterious Monkey tailed alien comes to Earth looking for his brother Kakarot, who turns out to be our hero Goku. Goku is forced to team up with his arch nemesis, Piccolo, in order to be able to fight such a high-powered individual.

At least I have you, tropes. You're always there for me:

  • And Call Him "George": Raditz thinks the farmer's attempts to hurt him are adorable in an endearing way and accidentally kills him when he throws the bullet back at him.
Raditz: Bad! Now get back up and tell me you’re sorry! Human? Huuuman? (sighs) So this is why Dad said I couldn’t keep Appule...
  • Butt-Monkey: Krillin is established as this from the very first episode: Goku states that the power level he feels is "higher than Krillin's losing streak".
  • Deep South: The farmer's reaction to Raditz's pod landing fits this stereotype nicely.
Farmer: I'd better do what any sensible American would do in this situation... git m' gun!
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Lanipator's voice for Krillin is a lot more nasal-y in this episode. He refines it over the next couple episodes to what we get now.
  • Frothy Mugs of Water: Roshi's drink changes from "O.J.", to apple juice, to beer as a result of some editing.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": Farmer calls himself "Farmer" in his inner monologue.
  • Idiot Ball: Goku telling Raditz pretty much everything he needs to know about the Dragon Balls is stupid enough - but then Nappa and Vegeta hear through the scouter and decide to get the Dragon Balls from Earth, kickstarting the arc's plot. Then again, Raditz is too busy preparing to wipe out Earth while Goku is unaware who is listening.
  • Mr. Exposition: Raditz is forced to be one after everything he says about the Saiyans goes right over Goku's head. (It doesn't help.)
  • Mythology Gag: Oolong offhandedly mentions "Bulma's Panties" when Goku talks about the type of wishes the Dragon Balls can grant. In the the original Dragon Ball, Oolong wishes for a pair of panties to prevent Emperor Pilaf from making his wish.
  • Reaction Shot: After Goku announces to everyone at Roshi's that Gohan is actually his son, we're treated to everyone's shocked expressions (after all, it doesn't seem likely that someone with that much childish innocence would even know how to make a baby.)
    • Another one occurs among everyone at Roshi's after Raditz states that he's Goku's brother.
  • Running Gag: The Krillin Owned Count starts here.
  • The Other Darrin: In-Universe. The voice actors for Raditz, Lanipator and Vegeta3986, are switched mid-episode when Radtiz prepares to call out his "Double Sunday" attack, with the latter refusing to acknowledge it. When the new VA (Vegeta3986) takes over, Raditz prepares to say "Keep your eye on the birdie", before being interrupted by his Scouter tracking Kakarot/Goku.
Lanipator: Fine! Here, take it. I’ll just go practice my Vegeta. Ass!
  • With Friends Like These...: Krillin has this insight.
Krillin: You know you guys are the reason I'm in therapy.

Goku: I'll friend you on MySpace.
(Beat)
Piccolo: (as he and Goku fly off in search of Gohan) Tom, you've been replaced!
