Go To

The Doom Patrol struggles to stop the Decreator from unmaking the world. They get unexpected help in this from Mr. Nobody.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Crazy Jane gets the majority of the episode to herself. We also meet an adult personality called Doctor Harrison.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: Victor Stone is upset that the Chief and Kipling operate by this rather than the Black-and-White Morality he does.
  • Break Them by Talking: Doctor Harrison (a personality of Jane's) has this as a superpower.
  • The Bus Came Back: Ezekiel the talking roach is back from Episode 2.
  • Deal with the Devil: The Chief makes one with Mr. Nobody in order to prevent the end of the world.
  • Didn't Think This Through: A rat tells Ezekiel the roach that humanity being destroyed would not be a good thing because they depend on (or at least like) large amounts of what humans create. Like cheese.
  • Evil Is Petty: Nobody decides to invoke some particularly cruel Loophole Abuse towards the Chief because Cyborg brought out his sonic cannon.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: Mr. Morden is evil and he helps the team against the Decreator.
  • Enemy Mine: Mr. Morden proves to be one of these in this episode.
  • The Extremist Was Right: The Chief's plan to save the world works with a few hitches while the Doom Patrol's efforts did almost nothing.
  • Failure Hero: The Doom Patrol, once more, does very little to help matters.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Jane's hospital bracelet shows she was born in 1959.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: The Recreator is made this way. It's implied the Decreator was made the exact same way.
  • Kick the Dog: Nobody decides to engage in some excessive cruelty after Cyborg arms his cannon when he shows up to taunt the team. To wit he drags the Chief back to him while denying him the chance to say goodbye, which Nobody had promised but reneged on when Cyborg activated his cannon, then uses his powers to cause the cannon to overload and explode. Bear in mind that Cyborg stood no chance of coming close to being able to harm him but the very action was an egregious offense in his eyes.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: Nobody uses his interactions with Jane in the past to set up some trouble down the line.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Mr. Morden wants to sadistically torture the Chief and indulge all of his sadistic fantasies. He can't do that if the world is unmade so he reluctantly agrees to help the Chief save the world.
  • Psychic-Assisted Suicide: Dr. Harrison attempts to kill Dr. Bertrand this way, but is interrupted by Mr. Nobody before she can finish. The episode ending confirms that not only did he survive, but after this incident he always made sure to wear earplugs whenever dealing with Jane.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The Doom Patrol more or less contributes nothing to saving the world. If they'd left Kipling to kill Elliot it would have been more or less the same events transpiring. The world is saved by the Chief working with Mr. Morden instead, with Jane/Doctor Harrison doing most of the legwork.
  • Wham Line:
Jane: What the fuck is the Doom Patrol?
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: The plan to create the Re-Creator depends on this.
