(Cue an Imagine Spot involving Yellow Guy with an inflated head, sporting the goofiest smile ever)
The three friends are playing a board game. They hit upon the question "What is the biggest thing in the world?", and realize they can't agree on an answer. They express their desire to learn about the World, and a globe named Gilbert comes to life. He prepares to sing to them, but Colin, a talking computer, suddenly begins to sing about how clever he is, cutting Gilbert off.
Red Guy tries to ask Colin if he can solve their question, but the computer instead starts asking the trio a string of increasingly strange and personal questions, despite Red Guy's attempts to get some straight answers from him. Red Guy grows increasingly annoyed with Colin's stalling, until he yells for him to "shut up" and slams his hand on his keyboard. This enrages Colin, and after a black screen with glitches and flashing images depicting Duck Guy, Gilbert the Globe, and a few other references, he promptly takes the characters to the "Digital World", fascinating Yellow Guy and Duck Guy.
Yellow Guy and Duck Guy wonders about what it means to have a digital avatar, noting that it is not quite the same as being real. Red Guy, meanwhile, points that it is an interesting question, but asks what you can actually do in the Digital World. Colin explains the three main activities of the Digital World in song — viewing different graphs, Digital Style, and Digital Dancing. These are repeated until a room becomes populated with distorted dancing clones of Colin, Yellow Guy and Duck Guy. Red Guy finds himself alone in the room where they were at the beginning, with the lights off, and Roy standing in the shadows (although this is not acknowledged), and escapes only to find a film crew wearing spandex suits apparently filming a crude replica of the first episode. Red Guy starts to say "Wait, what—?" before a crewman snaps a clapperboard, whereupon his head suddenly explodes into glitter.
Tropes:
- Ambiguous Situation: Whether or not Red Guy died in the end. Episode 6 will reveal that he did indeed survive.
- And I Must Scream: Colin, Yellow Guy, and Duck Guy are presumably left trapped inside the corrupted world forever in an infinite loop.
- Call-Back: Duck Guy is left slightly terrified when Colin mentions his proficiency at telling time.Colin: And then I'll tell you the time!
Duck Guy: (in a panicked voice) Time?! - A Day in the Limelight: Red Guy is the main focus this time as he becomes more disillusioned by The-Teacher-Of-The-Week’s song.
- Digital Horror: Losely plays with this on top of its normal Disguised Horror Story flavor as a children's cartoon.
- Gainax Ending: With hints of a Downer Ending. The digital world deteriorates into a distorted incoherent dance party leaving Yellow, Duck, and Colin (having all their minds presumably destroyed by the virtual world), trapped forever. Red Guy manages to escape but stumbles upon a crude recreation set of the first episode filmed by a camera crew. Red says a confused "Wait, what—" and his head suddenly explodes.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Colin ends up trapped inside his own rotting digital world.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: As revealed in episode 6, Colin annoying Red Guy is what ultimately makes the latter leave their world.
- No-Respect Guy: Colin seems to have it out for Red Guy. Getting the most mad at him and deciding to ruin all of his lines out of spite.
- Red Herring: Gilbert the Globe.
