Stage Fright
Echo is hired by talent agent Biz to be a backup singer for one of his most famous clients, pop singer Rayna Reynolds. Her real assignment, however, is to protect Rayna from a dangerous fan. Meanwhile, Lubov leads Ballard into a trap, which he barely survives.
Tropes
- Batman Gambit: Echo ends up kidnapping Rayna on the theory (a) her stalker won't want anyone else to harm her, and (b) Rayna will no longer want to die. It works.
- Foreshadowing: Dr. Saunders and Boyd bonding with each other becomes very important over the rest of the series.
- Joe Hearn's relationship with Sierra (apart from the fact he's her handler) becomes important later in the season.
- Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Averted - Dichen Lachman gets to use her own accent for a change when Sierra poses as an Australian who's Rayna's number one fan.
- The Reveal: Anton Lubov is an active code-named Victor.
- Shout-Out: When Boyd worries about Echo as she's about to go on stage for the first time, Topher jokingly calls Boyd, "Mama Rose".
- Suicide by Assassin: Played with - Echo is hired to protect Rayna (under the guise of her being Rayna's new backup singer) from a stalker who's been sending her death threats. It turns out Rayna has been in contact with her stalker, and what's him to kill her to give the fans a show, and to "free" her from a life she's grown tired of.
