"Sometimes it's more about the person than the powers."

"Employees should be aware that if they enter into a personal relationship with a subordinate employee, a conflict of interest may exist, which requires full disclosure to the Company."
SDN Employee Handbook, pg. 8

With a new spot on the Z-Team having opened up, Robert must once again make a difficult choice: give the anxious rookie Waterboy his first big shot or help a heartbroken Phenomaman get back on his feet? But that’s nothing compared to the choice that his heart will have to make…

Tropes included in this episode:

  • Ambiguous Situation: While Invisigal and Robert talk about her Erotic Dream of them having sex, she describes imagining herself with someone to see how it feels and looks, like trying on a dress. Robert realizes she was present with him and Blazer when he helped her into her formal outfit, and she says she might've been.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: At first glance, putting Phenomaman on your team may seem like it was an incredible idea: he starts off with excellent starting physical stats (only slumping in Charisma and Intellect), and on a successful mission, can be up and ready in as little as 3 seconds! Unfortunately, this contrasted strongly by the fact he might just outright not listen to the player's instructions on where to go, leaving a team potentially down a member, and if any mission is failed, by him or by another active team member, the time needed to get him back up and running is nearly a full minute in length!
  • The Big Damn Kiss: If Robert goes on the date with Blonde Blazer in the ending, she reveals her true, non-superpowered form to him - a somewhat shorter brunette - before immediately worrying that he doesn't like her anymore, and Robert has the option to move towards her and kiss her, before the two have dinner outside the office. Notably, this kiss gets the full cinematic Orbital Kiss treatment.
  • Bizarre Alien Sexes: Discussed: Phenomaman's genital configuration is incompatible with humans, so he never actually had intercourse with Blazer.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Whoever you choose to fill up the empty slot on the Z-Team will feel immediately like a downside in comparison to whoever you're replacing (what with Sonar's Stance System giving him far greater variety in the missions he can take, and Coupé being an incredibly effective Glass Cannon capable of handling many missions on her own). However, both highlight great potential, if you were to give them the necessary time to hone it.
    • Phenomaman's unresponsive to some orders, takes an exhaustingly large amount of rest if he or anyone else ends up failing a mission or a mission is missed, and even flies off at the start of the second shift cause he thought he saw Blazer in trouble. However, his starting stats are incredible by contrast, only noticeably slumping in Charisma and Intellect, meaning that as long as you're careful with what missions he's sent on, he can fairly easily handle a large chunk of missions on his own with still considerable odds of success.
    • Waterboy's starting stats are abysmal, half of his stats being about as low as they can go, and if you don't put him on missions enough, he'll artificially insert himself into one with you only having one chance to take him off! However, he levels up very fast, especially when sent on missions with other teammates, meaning you can actually help the guy catch up fairly quick and fill holes in your roster where they may be weaker.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Invisigal spends most of the episode very-blatantly checking Robert out and makes zero apologies for it.
  • Erotic Dream: The episode opens with Invisigal having a wet dream about Robert, and being absolutely enthralled with it.
  • Exact Words: In the description of Phenomaman's Perk, it warns that he has a chance to fall into the "Depressed" state if a call is failed. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean any calls he fails, but any failed missions on the whole team, pretty much pushing you to perfectly complete each mission or risk Phenomaman becoming dead weight around the team's neck.
  • Heartbroken Badass: After Blazer breaks up with Phenomaman at the dinner in Tokyo, he’s clearly shown to NOT be taking it well. He gets on the news for causing a major traffic jam, he’s dropped from his original team from the tutorial, he show’s up at SDN completely disheveled, and he even damages a car by flopping down on it.
  • Hope Spot: Robert's test of the rebuilt Mecha Man suit starts off promising with the suit performing well. But the moment he tries a more strenuous activity it causes the replacement Astral Pulse to break down. Even worse, this is the seventh failed recreation of the Astral Pulse.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Flambae nearly starts a fight with Robert after the latter throws spaghetti or a drink at him for bullying Waterboy. When Blonde Blazer shows up and asks what's going on, Robert claims Flambae accidentally made a mess. Flambae reluctantly plays along not wanting to start trouble with Blonde Blazer.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After a very UST-fueled interaction with Invisigal, Robert walks into Blonde Blazer's office in the middle of her getting changed, who then asks him to Zip Me Up. He mutters "what is happening today?" under his breath while doing so.
  • Magikarp Power: At first glance, putting Waterboy on your team may seem like it was a terrible idea: he has lower stats compared to the rest of Z-Team and, if you leave him without a mission long enough, he’ll run off on his own to prove himself. However, the true key to unlocking his potential lies in remembering that he’s a rookie and what the best way to handle that would be. Namely, you have to send him on training missions with more experienced heroes, with Invisigal being an especially good choice due to her double XP ability, so that he can gain XP. Doing so makes it surprisingly easy to 100% their missions and he’s shown to level up twice as fast overall, with a particular spike in Intellect, meaning the he basically becomes the perfect chance to build a new hero to fit whatever you need from the ground up. In other words, rather than throwing him right into the fire, you have to give Waterboy the chance to learn and grow.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Subverted. Invisigal proposes a liaison in the bathroom, but the mood is quickly killed by Waterboy, who is using a nearby stall and being far from subtle. As Robert points out to a very disgusted Invisigal, a public bathroom is probably one of the worst places to choose from for a hookup.
  • Moment Killer: When Invisigal starts hitting on Robert in the men's room while he's picking windshield shards out of his chest, it looks like the two are dangerously close to getting it on right then and there...up until they hear Waterboy loudly shitting in a nearby stall.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: If the player chooses to inform Blonde Blazer that she's having a slight Wardrobe Malfunction, Robert does so in a very calm, matter-of-fact manner.
  • R-Rated Opening: The episode opens with Invisigal having an Erotic Dream of herself having sex with Robert, with her orgasming so hard that she fades out of and into visibility before she wakes up.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Both Phenomaman and Waterboy can notably slot in to potentially replace whoever Robert kicked out with minimal frustration or work on the player's part, if used correctly that is.
    • Like Coupé, Phenomaman has incredible base Combat and Mobility and poor starting Charisma, with the main difference being him specking into Vigor instead of Intellect. Add on his ability to get back into action in a quarter of the time as any other Z-Team member on a successful mission, he nicely slots into carrying on her high risk, high reward, mobility based offense role with the team.
    • Like Sonar, Waterboy is capable of handling pretty much any mission he's assigned on, though in his case its due to fairly averaged stats across the board, while Sonar was more dependent on his stance changing. Unlike Sonar, though, Waterboy starts very weak, but his ability to gain XP quickly can quickly circumvent this, especially with a noticeable spike in Intellect allowing him to fill in where Sonar left off.
  • Tempting Fate: When Robert calls out Flambae for bullying Waterboy, asking him how he would feel to spend the rest of the day walking around Covered in Gunge, Flambae says he doesn't know because it'll never happen to him. Shortly afterwards, Robert throws either some spaghetti or a drink at Flambae, leaving him covered in the same mess he just left Waterboy in.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: While helping Blazer into her dress, players can helpfully point out that the areola of one of her breasts can still be seen.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Phenomaman is usually a seasoned hero who would easily be a good asset for your team, having pretty decent stats and being capable of going back on a mission after a successful run in just three seconds. However, because he’s still feeling the effects of his breakup with Blazer, he ends up becoming more of a high-risk scenario since he’ll need a whopping 45 SECONDS of cooldown if someone fails a mission/a mission is missed and, if you dispatch him early into the second half of the shift, he'll immediately leave the mission and fly off back to headquarters with the excuse that he thought he saw Blonde Blazer in trouble.
  • Zip Me Up: When Robert goes to meet Blonde Blazer in her office from Royd's lab, he sees her putting on a dress and immediately tries to leave before she asks him to enter, before asking him to zip up her dress. As he zips it up, she tells him that it is for a formal dinner organized by SDN that she has been invited to later that evening (with Robert potentially pointing out a slight Wardrobe Malfunction), before asking him how it looks right before seeking his help with getting Phenomaman out of the parking lot.
