Boomstick: Cyborgs are fucking badass!
Wiz: As someone with my own cybernetic arm that suffers constant glitches, I have to agree! Cyborgs are awesome.
Boomstick: Like Fulgore, the metal monster of Killer Instinct.
Wiz: And Sektor, the ninja cyborg from Mortal Kombat.
Boomstick: Totally should've been Cyrax!
[mechanical whirring, then a smack]
Boomstick: Ow! What the hell?!
Wiz: Oh, sorry. Arm's glitching up again.
Boomstick: When you least expect it, Wiz. When you least expect it.

The ninth episode of the second season and the thirty-fourth episode overall pits two deadly robotic killers against each other. In a battle of beams vs. missiles, warrior vs. ninja, and No Mercies vs. Fatalities, when all the weapons, armors, and skills are all factored in, there's only one thing to do: see who will win a death battle.

Fulgore: The dystopia of Killer Instinct has no governments, courts, or nations. There is only UltraTech, the mega-corporation that controls the entire planet. UltraTech's chairman plotted to build an entire army of cybernetic enforcers to tighten his already iron grip. This is how the prototype known as Fulgore was born.

At 6'5'' and weighing in at a total of 550 pounds of steel, Fulgore is a devastating killing machine. His design is based off an honorable knight to deceive people into trusting the cyborgs. The prototype was so popular that it sold 15 million units across the world. It was then that someone wanted to enter one of them into UltraTech's Killer Instinct Tournament. However, this caused a problem: Fulgore's technology was so advanced, scientists couldn't find a way to develop an artificial intelligence to match. Fulgore needed the mind of a fighter.

Black Eagle, the brother of current fighter Chief Thunder, was the previous champion of the last tournament. He used his fame to protest UltraTech, which was working until Black Eagle mysteriously disappeared. At the same time, Fulgore had finally gotten the brain of a fighter it needed.

With the mind of Eagle, Fulgore's fighting style consists of Judo, Taekwondo, and Hapkido, which is used through his quad-plasma blades. Fulgore can shoot Plasma Storm fireballs, reflect projectiles, maneuver with his Cyber Port and Cyber Dash, hide with his Cloaking Device, and much more. When his foes are weakened, Fulgore can use one of four No Mercies. Inside Fulgore's metallic body (along with a large turret) is a nuclear reactor which charges everything in his arsenal. Fulgore can overclock the reactor multiple times. And at maximum charge, Fulgore becomes stronger, faster, and is able to fire the Devastation Beam.

Fulgore was almost unstoppable, until Jago came along and literally tore him apart. However, Fulgore was rebuilt to be stronger, faster, and programmed with a new objective: Find and kill Jago. Fulgore almost won until Jago called in Black Orchid, who helped Jago destroy Fulgore once again.

Despite this, Fulgore is still a deadly thread to anyone in its way.

Fulgore: (Slashes, kicks, and punches its opponent, fires the devastation beam, and finishes with a bladed uppercut.)

Sektor: Shao Khan was one victory away from conquering Earthrealm. The Lin Kuei clan's Grandmaster came up with a plan so crazy, it just might work.

Grandmaster: Let's turn all of our ninjas into robots!

The Cyber Initiative was set into action. The first and only willing participant was the Grandmaster's son himself: Sektor.

Sektor stands at 6'1'' and with 300 pounds of metal. He is a master ninja and assassin who is trained in the arts of Ninjitsu, Sambo, and Kenpo. As a robot, he carries an endless supply of missiles. Perfect for a ninja. He also carries a flamethrower, a Cloaking Device, a teleporter, and Pulse Blades.

Sektor kills his foes with a brutal Fatality, like the Robo-Sek, where he fires five missiles at once, or the compactor, which can crush his foe almost instantly with at least two tons of force.

Sektor was instrumental in aiding Shao Khan against humanity, and led the invasion of Earthrealm. He was tasked with hunting the traitors and escapees, including Sub-Zero. Although he effortlessly fought through the Lin Kuei's enemies and assassinating his own father, he has yet to defeat Sub-Zero, even losing the title of Grandmaster to him, until Raiden reset the timeline and gave him away to turn him into Cyber Sub-Zero. While the Cyber Initiative enhanced his body, Sektor eventually slipped into insanity. All alone, he eventually became Grandmaster to his own clan of cyber ninjas known as the Tekunin. Sektor wanders the realms, craving a fight wherever he goes.

Smoke: You actually did it...You're a cyborg!
Sektor: We are the Lin Kuei. More stealthful than the night.

While Boomstick sings the Mortal Kombat theme, Wiz announces that it's time to end the debate. It's time for a death battle!

Sektor runs through a mechanical arena until he hits something. It is revealed that Sektor ran into Fulgore, who uncloaks. Sektor teleports to a safer distance while Fulgore readies its plasma blades.

FIGHT!

Sektor makes the first move, as Fulgore slowly walks forward, Sektor fires a missile. However, Fulgore reflects it back and follows up with a brutal combo that sends Sektor flying. While Sektor gets up, Fulgore starts to overclock his nuclear reactor. Sektor then teleports, delivering a series of blows to Sektor before finishing with his flamethrower. The Lin Kuei assassin then gets out his pulse blades and starts slashing at Fulgore with unrelenting strikes. Fulgore then sees an opportunity and delivers an uppercut, breaking the combo. Before overclocking his reactor again, he fires his plasma storm fireballs which hit Sektor before he hits the ground.

Sektor begins his Robo-Sek fatality, sending five missiles to aim at Fulgore's head and limbs. Fulgore is almost charged up, but stops overloading his reactor to destroy the missiles. Sektor uses his ninja skills to swing on the lights above to strike his opponent before delivering a series of punches and kicks. Sektor hits Fulgore with a missile at close range, and Fulgore is left temporarily incapacitated. The assassin uses this opportunity to bring out the compactor to finish him. As the compactor starts to close down...

Fulgore fights back. His plasma blades start pushing against the compactor. It seems the two are at a stalemate, until Fulgore's nuclear reactor reaches maximum charge, giving him the strength and speed he needs to destroy the compactor. Fulgore follows up with a long series of punches, kicks, and slashes, overpowering Sektor. Fulgore then shoots his Devastation Beam, blowing Sektor to pieces, and finishing the Ultra Combo.

K.O!

Opponent defeated, Fulgore uses his Machine Morph No Mercy to blow up the remains of Sektor's body.

With Sektor's ninja training, he could easily outmaneuver Fulgore. But Fulgore had the advantage in everything else. Not only is he more versatile than Sektor in both long and short range combat, he is also much larger, heavier, and stronger. Even if Sektor gained an advantage, Fulgore would only have to overclock his nuclear reactor to regain the advantage. Even though neither of them could defeat their rivals, Sektor constantly loses to Sub-Zero while Fulgore would've killed Jago in their rematch if not for Black Orchid's interference.

Boomstick: In the end, Sektor got ro-blown up.
Wizard: The winner is Fulgore!

Next time on Death Battle...

Fulgore VS Sektor contains examples of...

  • And I Must Scream: Ultimately the fate of Black Eagle; constantly fighting from within Fulgore while being force to operate a killing machine.
  • Attack Reflector: Fulgore has one to bounce back projectiles.
  • Awesome Mc Cool Name: Boomstick certainly takes a liking to the name "Fulgore".
  • Blatant Lies: It's pretty obvious that Wiz's "glitches" are really just an excuse for him to punch Boomstick.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Of the technological variety.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: The Lin Kuei clan's plan to turn all of their ninjas into cyborgs is described as such. Sektor was the only willing participant.
  • Cyborg: The main connection between the two combatants this time around. This is also the episode in which Wiz is revealed to be one.
  • Energy Weapon:
    • Fulgore has three notable ones in his skill set; plasma claws which can cut through almost anything, Eye Beams and the Devastation Beam.
    • Sektor also has one in the form of his Pulse Blades.
  • Finishing Move: Both combatants use these to close off a fight. Sektor tries it first but Fulgore effortlessly no sells it and uses his own.
  • Fragile Speedster: Sektor is this compared to his opponent. He was far more agile but he would also go down in far fewer hits. Even if he did get the upper hand, Fulgore overclocking his body would quickly put a stop to it.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Grandmaster succeeded in making Sektor a highly capable cyborg ninja and was promptly murdered by him.
  • Hammerspace: Fulgore somehow has the ability to store a machine gun turret inside his head. Sektor decided a compactor was more fitting.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Wiz mocks Sektor for this.
"Why would a ninja, master of the silent kill, use a missile launcher?!"
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sektor attempting to crush Fulgore with his compactor only gave Fulgore enough time to finish overclocking himself, break out of it and kill him with the Devastation Beam.
  • Invisibility Cloak: Both Fulgore and Sektor use one as part of their skill sets.
  • Mighty Glacier: Fulgore was slower than his opponent but he was also stronger and more durable.
  • Near-Villain Victory: It is noted that Fulgore almost completed his objective to kill Jago until Black Orchid showed up. This is one of the factors as to why he won. His rival needed outside help to defeat him while the same cannot be said for Sektor.
  • No Body Left Behind: The post fight animation has Fulgore destroy what was left of Sektor's body.
  • Obviously Evil: Discussed with Fulgore. Ultratech knew the design was this and attempted to rectify parts of it to look more like an honorable knight. Results are varied to say the least.
  • Only Sane Man: Boomstick makes up one to accomodate Ultratech's good decisions. This man first decided that it would be a good idea to test Fulgore before shipping 15 million units across the globe. When Fulgore had issues function, the same man (probably) had Black Eagle killed, stomped out his revolution and giving Fulgore a proper brain to use.
  • Power Incontinence: Fulgore was so perfectly designed that there was no artificial intelligence that properly operate it. To accomadate this Ultratech killed Black Eagle and put his brain into Fulgore's body.
  • Super-Persistent Missile: One of Sektor's attacks. He attempts to use some on Fulgore but they get sliced apart by Fulgore's Eye Beams.
  • Super-Soldier: The Fulgore prototype was built to be one.
  • Take That!: Boomstick likens Ultratech to Walmart and this proceeds to be a Running Gag in most future Killer Instinct episodes.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: Boomstick isn't exactly impressed with Sektor's name, not because it isn't cool. Just the fact that Sektor's father almost certainly gave him this name in case he ever managed to get his Cyber Initiative off the ground.
