Recap / Darkwing Duck S 3 E 3 The Revenge Of The Return Of The Brainteasers Too

Go To

Following the events of Battle of the Brainteasers, Flarg and his followers break out of jail and return to Earth to get revenge on Honker for foiling their plans. Meanwhile, Honker suffers an identity crisis and wishes to have people look up to him the same way they do to Darkwing Duck.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Honker. The episode centers about his insecurities and about him and Gosalyn stopping the Brainteasers.
  • Cult of Personality: Flarg and the Brainteasers loyal to him describe the Fez citizens' admiration of Honker as one of these.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Flarg and the others took over the bodies of cats and dogs. When he ordered Barada to take over Honker's body, Barada's host, a dog, was free of mind control and started chasing Flarg who's host was a cat.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: Gosalyn finds a derby bowler hat that looks identical to Flarg in the Darkwing Tower closet and draws eyes on it to make Barada and Nikto think she's possessed by him. It works at first, but they eventually catch on.
  • Frame-Up: The Brainteasers' plan is to frame Honker for the mass destruction on various star systems in order to get revenge for getting them in jail.
  • Immune to Mind Control: Hair gel makes the Brainteasers unable to stay on their would-be victims, protecting them from behind taken over. Honker uses it on himself to protect him from getting taken by Flarg again, also applying it Gosalyn to free her and later Darkwing after Talaya accidentally sneezes herself off his head again.
  • Jail Bake: Spoofed when Talaya visits Flarg in prison and gives him a file (they eat metal) that has a cake inside, which he uses to incapacitate the guard.
  • Murder, Arson, and Jaywalking: Flarg's Intergalactic Harmonizer would allegedly cause major disasters throughout the galaxy, including "tidal waves, earthquakes, and static cling."
  • That Came Out Wrong: When Drake tries to assure Honker he's fine as his usual smart self, Honker tells him he's "tired of being smart" and "wants to be like [him]." He's actually talking about Drake's brave and heroic qualities as Darkwing Duck, but it comes off as saying Drake isn't smart. Honker doesn't seem to realize his accidental implications until Drake takes offense after a second, after which he's quick to clarify himself.
