Recap / Darkwing Duck S 2 E 10 Bad Tidings

Go To

F.O.W.L. has created a device that allows them to control the tides, threatening to flood the world unless their exorbitant ransom is paid. Both Darkwing Duck and Agent Gryzlikoff must work together to stop F.O.W.L., but their mutual dislike of each other gets in the way - which isn't helped when Steelbeak decides to get involved.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Doomsday Device: F.O.W.L. has created a machine that allows them to control the tides, which they keep on the moon to avoid it being tampered with. They're blackmailing the world governments into handing over an exorbitant amount of money, or else they'll activate it and flood all the major cities of the world.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Steelbeak tries to encourage Darkwing and Gryzlikoff to fight in order to delay them from foiling F.O.W.L.'s plan.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The ultimate example. Darkwing and Gryzlikoff need to work together to stop F.O.W.L., but despise each other. They make up and break up several times throughout the course of the episode, much to the ire of J. Gander and the amusement of Steelbeak.
  • That Russian Squat Dance: Gryzlikoff does this as an attack to take out a F.O.W.L. Eggman. Later on in the episode, both Darkwing and Gryz use it in tandem to take out two Eggmen at once.
  • This Is My Side: Early on, the perpetually-feuding Darkwing and Gryzlikoff paint a line down the desert island they're trapped on - including the shuttle. At the end, when they start feuding again, they end up doing this with the moon!
